they are an upgrade, but if its out of a dually truck the wheel hubs need to be changed.

Remember that a GM Dana 60 only uses 3 u-bolts to hold it to the springs. The inner side by the pumpkin should have two studs or bolts.

Ok, I’m little confused on that… you mean hubs, rotor etc changed with the d44?
My apologies I’m learning

yessir, the front axle from dually is only wider with the dually style wheel hubs on it, you can put single rear wheel hubs on them and it will be the same as any single wheel squarebody.

if you look at the screen shot you can see where the wheel bolts on and notice the difference in wheel hubs

edited to include: the housing is the same from SRW to DRW it is only the wheel hubs that make the DRW front diff wider.

was there NP205's in 1989 one ton dually?
my searching so far has come up empty
Bob,
(speaking to 1 ton square bodies,)
The NP205 transfer case was used up until 1991.
Automatic transmissions were THM400 ("Turbo" 400 or Turbo Hydramatic 400) until 1990. 1991 was the first year for the new 4L80E.
The trucks were C/K 30 thru 1986. Starting in 1987, the square bodies designation was changed to R/V and the C/K was moved to the new round bodies. 1986 was the last year with the large gas filler holes that would allow leaded gas. 1987 was the first year for fuel injection and switch to the small gas filler holes that would only accept unleaded nozzles.
Hope this helps.
