earlier figure 8 cases are weaker if i recall right

If they are weaker then I have never found the Kryptonite to kill them. I have one that I have absolutely punished with a heavy right foot, 6K plus RPM clutch dumps, 40 inch tires and total chaos. I have not been able to destroy one yet. Now, 10 bolt differentials are a completely different story!!! Thank GOD for 14FF and Dana 60's.

Figure 8 and round cases are identical internally. Input/output shafts can be different. My NOS round case has figure 8 guts in it.

i may be thinking of the sm465 mated to them then , something was weaker in relation to that pattern.

The figure 8 style uses a 10 spline coupler sleeve to mate with the 10 spline output style sm465. It's not weaker really, it just develops spline wear much faster.

Round and figure 8 205's both use a larger input bearing on the 32 spline models.
