Well I was adjusting the idle mix screws and she just died. No spit, no sputter, just died. Have to hold the throttle to the floor to get it to start. Won't idle. Sounds like it running on about 2 cylinders and with the throttle to the floor I'm getting about 600rpms. Let off and it dies.

Sounds like it's still flooding out?

Took 2 turns and it started idling up. Still ran like ****, but started to level out. Then I got a huge backfire out of the carb and a big cloud of black smoke shot out the top and it died. Went to restart and it backfired again as soon at it started.

I was 2.5 turns out on the idle mix. Turned them in to 2 turns and it's still backfiring.

Like to say retarded but you said it was set to 12° which should be good enough to get out running without back firing. Really just think that intake adaptor doesn't work as well as it s should.

I have a buddy in town that has an extra adapter. I guess I can swap them out and see what happens.

It still just sounds like it's running on half it cylinders. Like an old for tractor. Even idled up it doesn't sound good.

That would be great. Did his work with his carb? With the choke opened rotate the throttle. Do you see two jets of gas shooting out?

Yea he was running a qjet with his eddy I take and it worked fine until he bought an eddy carb. I have already put the air cleaner back on and shut the hood. It's too cold and dark and I was just getting pissed off. I will mess with it again at lunch tomorrow. Maybe I will tow it up the street to my heated shop at work so I can mess with it tomorrow evening.

Cool deal get that adapter and let's see what happens. Doesn't seem like your getting anywhere.

I'm sure you are getting just as tired of this as I am. On a good note, the oil was fine except the gas that was in it. No metal shavings or anything like that. I just wish I could figure out of its a carb/intake/ignition problem or if it's motor problem. Just crazy that it only started after the qjet went on. Guess if the adapter isn't sealed good that would explain why. I just don't get any increase in RPMs when I spray WD40 or carb cleaner around it.

It's more so a design issue Google spread bore to square bore carb adapter problem... side note since I was fifteen I've never gotten tired of engine problems. I find it a real challenge.and I really like challenges... trust I know this ish is getting old but when you solve the problem wither it's on your own or help from someone you'll feel good and have learned the symptoms that caused that and know what to look for.:) cheers

A carb adapter can often cause minor driveabilty issues, but usually nothing horrible. On a stock manifold, I've actually had good luck with the open adapters. Never run one on an aftermarket manifold before.

Any chance on getting a video of how the truck is running?
