What do you think the problem is with the adapter? I think I will get the holly stuck on because it won't cost me anything to try. Then I will know for sure what I need to do.

Go to cliffsperformance.com and check out the forum. I checked it out today, I think it's in the tuning part, but there is a thread with a guy having issues running an adapter and Cliff responds with the issues it causes. The guy running the adapter has a 72 c20, but I cannot remember the title of the thread. Too many thoughts and beers between reading it at work and now close to bed time. There was info on adjusting the APT as well.

You're welcome. It's not an active forum like this one but you can glean some good info from it when you find what you're looking for. I was looking for in info on part throttle...damn as I just typed that the thread there has something about being lean at part throttle...that will help you find it...

Meaning, it has lean at part throttle in the title. Dang beers and finger farts before a 4 day weekend

Spread bore to square: trying to funnel/ squeeze an air+ fuel mixture with a bad design= the issues your having. The sharp abrupt rerun creates turbulence that interrupts the mixture entering the engine. This is what I think it's wrong

If I can't get his holly today I will stick the Eddy back on for a sec to confirm the problem. Do you have an adapter you would recommend?

Holy **** batman. That's a high dollar piece of aluminum. I will make certain it's an adapter problem before I order it. I will have the holly this afternoon and will get it slapped on.

Yea that's why you send the one you have now back because it's"defective" :) exchange it for the one noted and pay the difference. Well you said the Holley ran good last time

No I never put the Holley on. I didn't bother because I tinkered with it enough to get it idling so I could set the timing. Here is a pic of the adapter I have. You cant really see it, but on the front on the bottom, it tapers back towards the inside. hard to explain what I mean without a better pic, but the front of the adapter doesn't sit well on the intake. I just never worried about it because I could never get an rpm increase when checking for vac leaks. http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/mc/install-items/sb/2692.jpg

Ok got my carb off and noticed a couple of potential issues.

Issue #1.

. These are the studs that hold the carb to the adapter. That nut goes in a hole on the bottom side with the studs protruding up. I think that a couple of them could have been threaded too far, with the stud pushing against the intake creating a vacuum leak.

Issue #2.

the idle screw is a good 1/4 inch away from touching the linkage. Not sure how it was idling so high the other day without the screw touching.

Vacuum leaks cause high idle.
