This whole dilemma sounds to be ignition related. So you ran power straight from the battery to the dizzy? What parts do you have coming?

No. When I tried it at lunch it tried to start so I assume it has power to the distributor. Just have the cable and bracket coming, and I'm going to put the thick gasket back on it that I bought the other day. If I can get it to start I can check the timing, but I can't do jack until I get it started. Is it possible for the timing to be so far off that it won't start? It just keeps flooding. Maybe I retarded it more when I was trying to get the cap back on.

Hate to say but I'm starting to thing your timing chain has stretched, thus the richer and richer. I dint think the carb related stuff will make err start. If you got "strong" and "correct"ignition that thing would start. B4 taking it to the shop try that temporary jumper. I'm confident it's in the ignition. Taking off the cap kinda points the finger...

Going to hook up the jumper wire after work, but I did get it to start for a sec at lunch. Died immediately, but it did start. It's flooding something terrible. Now that I think about it the more I think it's getting way too much fuel. I can let it sit over night and hit the ignition and it will fire, but even if I give the gas 1 pump, no fire. I am far from a carb expert but if it's flooding should there not be a bunch of fuel in the bowl? I cranked it so much the other day that when I popped the hood the entire outside of the carb was soaked in gas, but there was none in the bowl.

It just makes too much sense. It would explain why I have to increase idle speed to get it to run. Would explain why once I get it idling, I can kill it and it won't idle upon restart. Would explain why it sounds like a tractor before the idle smoothes out.

Let's get Mark to send you another carb... then get your timing set because both all three carbs running rich means they are other underlining issues... I.E. timing

A buddy has a Holley truck avenger we're going to put on it tomorrow to see if that fixes it. Then we will know for sure if it's the carb or not.

Cool deal. While it's on there maybe you can see how far the timings off.

The suspense of your truck problem(s) is killing me. I sure hope you can get it figured out soon. I would definitely check the timing chain as mentioned. When I had my engine out, even with it being low mileage, the chain had a boat load of slack in it. I was surprised it had that much slack in it.

My problem is that idk how long ago the motor was built. Idk what cam is in it. I haven't pulled the valve covers off to see what heads are on it. If I have replace the chain I'm just going to pull the motor and have it rebuilt. The rest of the truck is so solid that I wouldn't feel bad about it. The fuel pump/brake booster/carb/intake all looked almost brand new when I bought the truck, but I guess that doesn't mean anything.

Hey bud if the t chain is worn it don't mean you have to replace the engine. If it come to it tho I would check the compression and if #s show to be low then get err rebuilt. If it's good go for it and throw a better can in that thing...

I forget where you live Zach and you don't have it in your location. We're finally getting a few Okies on here and I'm not on enough now to remember everyone's location. Maybe I can swing by and take a look or at least loan an advance wheel timing light.
