Not a bad idea at all if you don't have a Timing Advance Timing light with a dial on the back of it. That's what I use. My trusty Craftsman Timing light that's about 28 years old now. Works like a charm. Using the dial you can know your full advance, centrifical advance only etc. Works real good in conjunction with a tach to set up your timing curve with weights and springs.
