Well, the ball joints are shot. Its been 20+ years and 90K miles of dailyish/off road driving since they were replaced last, its time for an overhaul. Ordered all the parts yesterday afternoon for a full front Dana 44 axle rebuild. So once I finish working on my buddies Samurai, the 77 goes back under the knife.

Curious if your disconnecting the "low beam" signal coming from the truck? If not, as wiring, connections, and switch get old, they could be another load on that ckt and change the brightness of the lights. I like the simplicity though.

Also, as someone else mentioned in the past, you might want to put an oil pressure switch on your ground. That way when you sitting there looking at the sky at night with it in ACC, your lights won't come on. The lights will only come on once the engine is running.

I am using the low beam signal from light switch. I do like idea of the oil pressure switch on the ground lead. May look into that after the front axle rebuild. Thanks for the info.

Just ordered a oil pressure safely switch PS98 for a 74 Vega. From what I have read it’s the common one to use for electric fuel pumps and such. Like the low beam relay.

Had to get creative with a slide hammer to get the gear out so I can replace the seals.

Was able to get a couple hours of work done today. Axle cleaned and painted, old u-joints pressed out and tie rods and drag link assembled. Next is installing new u-joints and ball joints.
