We made it to the junkyard!
He was beside himself with all the thrifty goodness that was laid out before us.

-Our first score was a K&N filter out of a '99 Denali that was a fresh kill.
$1.47 out the door. What will we use it for, who knows?

He did not want the Everyone Poops book that I found for him....

Our Suburban has a loose rear door latch, so he was figuring out how to fix it by taking this one apart.

Under the hood of the blue truck he found a set of headers that would go right onto our Suburban. We were getting tired and HOT. I told him he could come back the next day for them and the Flowmaster that was under it with his buddy as they didn't start school yet....

Our last item of the day was the Jeep steering column shaft upgrade.
I don't think in all the reading that I have done on that one, that anyone has mentioned that you have to remove the retaining screws so the shaft will slide off the steering box and column stub. We fought that thing for 15 minutes before I thought to take those all the way out.
It pretty much fell out after that.

On the way home we had a celebratory ice cream cone from McDonalds along with some refreshing soda.
It was a swell day all around.

In the Jeep photo you can see our haul.
We pulled out two sets of the Windstar fans, one for the '79 and the other for the '95 Sub.
Jeep column.
We pulled the under hood trouble light from a '95 suburban to be installed in the '79.
I pulled an alternator that looked like it was just replaced on a '98 truck.
Not to mention loads of little electrical fuse holders and weather pack plug sets.

He ended up going back the next day and found us a full set of 5 Western 8 hole wagon wheels. Not what I sent him for as I just wanted the stock looking wheels off the 3/4 Ford Van that I saw. But it would be hard to find another complete set of the wagon wheels, so he got them.

He also found a nice set of 3/4 ton Scottsdale emblems that we somehow overlooked the day before...

When I pull them, I remove the 2 retaining screws you mentioned above. Then remove the bolts mounting the steering column to the dash and the bolts at the floor. Then give the steering wheel a good yank towards your chest. You'll hear it when it drops out. I can take one out in about 10 minutes now.

Pick up a 60/40 seat today! Been looking for a while. Doesn't have the center console but I think one will bolt in when I find a decent priced one. Ebay wants over 100 bucks with shipping more then I paid for the seats!

That's a good deal, had two trucks with that seat set up in them, both were 98 model Z71s. Gonna be honest never cared for those, never seemed like I could get them adjust right to me. Maybe it was the trucks, maybe it was me, hell idk lol. I preferred the older seat set up, I guess that would be pre-94? 88-94 seats? Especially the captain chairs you'd find in the heavy trucks or the sports.

Oh great now you tell me! Lol! I like the seats in my 05 Sierra Its got the center jump seat with the fold down console. But I didnt want to cut up the floor to put those seats in so these seem like the next best option other then buckets. If you look close ive got a pair of buckets that came out of a 92 in that pic. Idk I just like the bench seats call me odd lol. If I wanted buckets I think I would just do suburban seats since they almost bolt in.

Good looking wheels. Looks like a nice box that my truck is looking for too.

Picked up a sm465 and np205 combo today, got it from a guy off my local buy and sell website, I’m super excited I’ve wanted this combo since I started doing projects.

300 bucks and he delivered it 100 miles, it worked out good cuz he was passing through town anyways. Less hassle for me lol and I’m super excited, I was gonna just rebuild and upgrade pieces slowly and was gonna save it for my future tow pig project.

But I’m having all of these thoughts of swapping it into my burban, which also gets my mind goin about the full floater and 8 lug 44 I’ve got laying around waiting for a rebuild as well. I’m just not positive if I want to do the heavy duty swap as I plan to somewhat daily my suburban. Won’t take much to talk me into it lol

Annnnnddd just like that I’m talked into it lol. I’m really digging the 4 speed idea, those axles both need a full rebuild though. Maybe I’ll start by inspecting the new trans and transfer case completely and if everything looks okay mechanically I’ll just do every seal and run em till they need a rebuild?!

Get all my components gathered up in the mean time, pedal assembly, I need a clutch fork, clutch, and flywheel. I think I’d prefer a hydraulic clutch but not sold on it yet. Also should try to find a manual trans tunnel cover, and the shifter for the 205.... I need a list lolol

You should also look into the Ranger overdrive unit to put in front of the transmission as well.
I would love to have another gear range to put my SM465 into on the freeway.

before you get to carried away since its a dd you might want to look up gear ratios tire size and what rpm you will tuning while driving.

I was expecting it to be close to a th350. But I’ve got 3.73’s with 33 inch tires for now, I’m gonna go to 35’s someday as well so that’ll help
