Unfortunately they're 16.5s and will be going away when the BFGs wear out. You can't give then away around here, probably scrap them when aluminum price is up.
Aluminum slots can sell for around 200 bucks in these parts.
I hear ya. A while back I got rid of my 16.5's and went to 16's because I heard from many people that due to the double lip the 16.5's have they were "unsafe". Never heard of anyone getting into an accident because of them but went to 16's none the less. Now that 16.5's are out it seems even 16's are getting scarce. I'm debating on 16's or 17's for my DD Suburban.
That whole thing about 16.5's being unsafe is a joke. Most of them didn't have a "safety bead" to help retain the bead when the pressure is low. But the reality is, if you are running your tire that low on pressure while traveling down the highway with "safety bead" rims, you're likely going to blow out a sidewall anyway.
The 16.5 bead design is good for service in the field with basic tools, just like the billions of 17.5's, 19.5's, 22.5's and 24.5's still in use on all the medium and heavy duty trucks on the road. But somehow, 16.5's got a bad reputation and now there's no tire selection for the poor folks that want to run period-correct wheels on their vintage trucks.
And to top it all off, many of GM's 16.5's used in the 70's actually had safety beads in the rims. Meanwhile, millions of "2nd gen" Dodge trucks used 16" rims that didn't have a safety bead on both sides of the rim, and nobody said jack **** about those.
