Charcoal / vapor / evap canister, how it should be set up and other information

been going crazy trying to find this kind of info online, i have an 86 k5 blazer that i swapped out the 305 with a 400, deleted most of the emissions stuff and have a after market edlebrock carb, this thread has help tremendously. thank you

i know this is a very old thread but im hoping this can get answered, i capped off the middle 3/8 connection, is it fine to leave the middle 1/4 tapped into the bottom 3/8 line, this is how it was stock

@mjck5 I agree with Wayne, when you get the chance you should start a thread in the new members introduction area and post truck pic over there for us to look at! We like them in all conditions!

How many ports are on the canister? There are a lot of specific P/N #'s that have been discontinued. These part numbers below will work in place of most of them, and if not a direct fit they can be adapted. If you have your old canister and can take a picture of it from the top I can tell you how to use / adapt one of these to work.

3 port canister (can be setup as 2) ACDelco PN#215-153 Standard Motor Products PN#CP1022

5 port canister (can be setup as 6) GM PN#17064627DS NAPA PN#CRB 229805

You can use the 5 port canister (can be setup as 6) GM PN#17064627DS NAPA PN#CRB 229805

The only difference is the 6th port, the solo port on the end closest to the radiator will have a cap on it that you'll need to pop off, and the port faces straight up instead of being at an angle, but it will work with no problem for your truck.

Would you recommend this 5 port canister over the 3 port one? I can find the 3 port one on Amazon. The 5 port canister is a bit more difficult to locate. Thoughts? ...and Thanks.

Well the 3 port will recover vapor from the tanks, but it would not perform the other funcations, bowl vent, A/F connection and it purges a little different. There are parts (designed for Chryslers) that will make a 3 port function like a 5 or 6. Let me see if I can find a 5 port and I'll get back on here and post again in a few minutes.

If you wanted to use the 3 port canister, you'll have the option of hooking it up as described for the 3 port on post 4 of this thread or using an external vacuum controller (I can get you P/N for it if you want). Then I would TEE into the vacuum from the fuel tank and hook the bowl vent line to it. Plug off or remove the line to the air filter housing. Eliminate the smaller manifold control line if not using an external control unit.

Oh your pretty close to me, the shop I manage is in Redmond.
Which shop do you manage? I might have to drop in sometime. I did order the canister off ebay. It should be here early next week. Given I've only owned the truck for about 2 and a half years, I discovering more "bubba-isms." :) All of the emissions are deleted.

Good to know you aren't that far away.
