Finally got a running 65 C10

Dealing with a big oil leak on my 2021 single cab long bed Silverado with the 5.3. Almost to 80,000 miles and it leaks like an 8 inch diameter circle in 30 minutes. I just put a quart in it.

Likely it hasn’t dropped a lifter or screwed up the transmission like my wife’s 2020 trail boss. It’s been five grand doing a DOD delete with a new cam and lifters, and now the transmission is going out or at least the torque converter is. 80,000 miles as well. I just don’t make them like they used to. The LS platform was the last great one.

Well I broke a tooth on the comp cams timing chain sprocket.

Im tempted to just run the damn thing, you can see I’ve already installed the chain and was getting ready to install the front cover before I had second thoughts…..****!!!!

This sets me back 80 bucks and a week

Ok, I'm really curious as to HOW you did that?

Personally, I'd run it. I'd say there's a 99.9999% chance that it would never cause an issue.

Just make sure there is no burr or raised area that might rub the chain from the break.

I think you'll be ok to run it.

Thanks guys, I went ahead and ran it.

Today I took my little 125 cc Grom to the local fire museum for my nephew’s birthday and then to the gym. Damn, I love that little bike. Since I sold my 1000 I still have to get out there and get wind therapy. Nothing like a James Taylor song on a spring day.

Bunch of stuff came in today, got the oil pan in, painted and installed. Was a booger getting all the bolts started, but I got them all in and snug. Of course the cam and timing chain are in, front cover back on. My head bolts just came in so I’m working on installing the new springs on the heads. Also, got the new speedo housing install installed. There’s no speedo gear in it yet, but at least I’ll be able to plug into it and stop the leak.

Really once I put the heads on, then I can do the intake. Put it back on the engine, hoist and mount the clutch and transmission back.

Also got new brass freeze plugs installed. Learned my lesson with my brother’s engine. Last time I installed it, had to hook the engine back up to the hoist, undo the motor mount, pick it up a couple of inches, remove the leaky rotted, freeze plug, and install the new one.

I need to find a freeze plug small enough to fit that hole on the top rear of the block that was once the crank case vent or whatever. Oil filler plug. Or both.
