It aint doing crap and no the the rebar isnt touching the intake. The negative is on filler tube not another rebar.

At least you're alive. So something is wring. Maybe to much water?? Maybe your charger is protecting itself on the 50amp. I'd dump half that water out. Put the charger on 10amp and clamp that negative in the center of the carb area. It won't hurt it to be under water. I have done it before. Just to make sure you got good connections. You should see bubbles or something almost immediatley if its working. I mean, you know, watch is close for a couple minutes and you'll see bubbles come to the top and some of the water might start to move a bit.

That sucks. Maybe try something different than the rebar? I am wondering if it makes a difference if you use tap water or well water?

Good Question Sky. If its at Zero or real low, its not working. As your rebar gets dirty, your amps will drop too.

I have heard that distilled water does work better, but tap water will work fine too.

I have a feeling his charger on 50 amp, is not working. Its detecting a dead ground short and not coming on. Need to do 10amp Dave. Also make sure your connections are good.

Maybe that negatvie clamp isn;t getting a good bite on clean metal too? Maybe stick a bolt in the manifold somewhere to clamp it on? Dave, show us some pics of what's going on man, let's see that rebar.

I agree, that's why I suggested putting a bolt in one of the carb mount holes and use a jamb nut to make sure its tight. That way we know its got a good bite and connection to the intake, not some flimsy ass cheap thin fill tube. I think it would be better with something bigger than a stick or rebar too. Rebar would be fine for some small parts in a mop bucket, but I think bigger heavier steel will be better. And of course, not so much water.

Put the charger on 10 amp and dump a couple cups of rock salt in there and stir it up. I would take some water out too, just enough to cover the part like HRPC said. And you definitely don't want your charger clamp in the water.A bolt in the carb mount hole sticking up out of the water would be a good place to clamp it.

I put 17 gallons of water to 17 tablespoon of washing soda. Didnt do anything on 10 amp either. I think this battery charger is too cheap of a charger cause I would get funny readings and then go back after the charger cooled then it would read fine like something that window with needle is getting stuck or hung up at times.

Will empty water half the water tomorrow and start on 10 amps to what happens.

Sounds like your batter charger is like a few women I know. They aren't puttin out and sending false signals !!! :roflbow::roflbow::roflbow:

I can't beleive you didn't dump half the water out today. How hard could that be??? Also get a bolt and bolt it into the carb stud hole with a jamb nut so you can make sure its good and snug without driving the threads thru the manifold and breaking it.

I put all that water in there so it would clean the filler tube but I guess I could stand it up on its end for that so i could use less water. Might have to buy to one of those schumacher ones at walmart.

I dont know if bolt will thread into a carb stud hole cause how rusty 2 of 4 holes are. Could I just thread a nut on 2 of the other studs that are already in the intake?

Sure, whatever it takes to get something to clamp onto. C4 says not to put the leads in the water, but I had the negative lead totally submerged when I did that Olds 425 and it ran 10 hours without a problem and no damage  I know I wouldn't put the positive in the water.
