Where did you find that head? Was it buried in the back yard for the last 10 years?

NEVER do this in an enclosed area. I've done it outside the times I've done it.

If I were doing this I would try agitating the water during the cooking process. An electric drill with one of those stirrers used for mixing 5 gallon paint buckets would work.

Wouldn't be difficult to make a jig to hold the drill, but you would have to include a suspending safety wire from above just in case it slipped.

If the drill motor slipped in, we just might have a whole new process invented. That thing would really be cookin then wouldn't it???
Until it tripped a breaker. When I do this process anyway, I make sure I'm plugged into a GFI. I run an extension cord from the kitchen sink. I do this because I like to let the process run overnight unattended and should anything go wrong, I want it to trip fairly easy.

You're close to right bucket. I have the other head too. It came off the Olds 425 block that I first did this thread on. The complete engine with Th400 still attatched sat on the ground in a pasture for over 15 years out in the weather. The oil pan was rusted completely though and no good at all. These C heads are the most sought after OEM BBO heads so they'll bring some bucks when I get them cleaned.

In this fuggin city I live in, cops pull you over for no license plate light. Just to be pricks and have an excuse to pull you over and make sure you aren't under the influence, and have insurance, no warrants etc. They don't even write a ticket for it. They don't want you to fix it cuz then they can't pull you over anymore. I was pulled over 2 times in 3 days, once in each of the drivers, the 85K1500 and 84C20. I hooked up the lights in the bumper on the 85K1500. But the 84C20 has that redneck homemade stop a freight train Git'r Done bumper with no light. On the 85K1500, I seen the OEM license plate light and bracket behind the bumper. It'll work great on the 84C20. It was rusty as hell, so here I go. Gonna clean it, paint it and put it on the 84C20.

I pulled it out to check it. It looks like it was making good progress, but it slowed way down. I also had cleaned the steel off a couple times and its getting very funky quickly.

I notice it seems to get cleaner near where the lead is clamped to the part first too. You can actually see the bubbles in the water coming from where I have the bolt in the part.

I'm begging to think the electrolyte is now so funky, its slowed the process down, and the funk that is clinging to the steel, is actually coming from the electolyte, not the part. I think the electrolyte getting so funky has slowed or stopped the cleaning process. Also, notice, I don't have alot of water in there, so it likley diluted to badly.

So here is what it looked like when I decided to start over with clean water and washing soda making new clean electrolyte.
