So I dumped out all the old electolyte, cleaned the steel real good, rinsed off any loose rust off the part and started over. Within a couple minutes, again, you could see it quickly starting to remove the rust. I'd say the cleaner electolyte certainly makes a difference and that old stuff had gotten to diluted. It was some very very funky looking stuff.

Look at this stuff bubbling now. It's really cookin now. Its actually cookin good enough now, its evaporating the electolyte, and I assume the rust is much looser now from the previous electrolyte, cuz its really coming off fast and diluting the electrolyte quickly now.

Pulled it for another check after about 20 minutes. Obviously some quick progress. Time to clean the steel off again. And remember previous post where I mentioned I think its getting cleaner where the bolt is bolted to the part for the negative lead? I am going to move the negative lead to the remaining rusty part to get it closer and see if that speed up the process, and get the rust off in that location.

Look how quick the elecrolyte got funky after I moved the negative lead. I'd say it does pay off and make a difference to move the lead to the dirtier section of the part. According to this, it does clean closest to the negative lead first.

Notice how low the electrolyte got. I am sure this was cookin good enough, it was evaproating the eletrolyte.

I'm calling it good enough. I know I could clean the electrolyte one more time and have this thing perfect, but I am going to hit with a wire brush, knock the rest off and paint it. Here is what's cool. Notice I left the wire, the glass bubble window, the bulb, and rubber gasket on it? Its all still good. I did that cuz I coudln't get the screws off without stripping them out they were so rusted. With a little effort, I was able to get the screws off now.

And now that I know just a little more about this process, I'm doing that Olds C head again. In this tub. Using a 5ft stick of 1/4 in thick steel. It was hell to bend it like this, but this will surround the head on 3 sides, and I'll expect much better results this time.

Ever tried half and half on the baking soda and washing soda to see what happens? Meaning say you to put in 10 tablespoons. So you would put 5 of baking soda and 5 of washing soda.

Nope, never tried it. Been seen on several sites that Washing Soda is better than Baking Soda, so taking advantage of what others have already figured out, I just stick with that.

You're not kidding it was a bitch. That 1/4 strap was tough as hell to bend, then drill holes thru. I wanted to weld it, but I also want the legs adjustable for other projects, so I decided to do bolts instead. I ground the hell out of the matting surface with an angle grinder. It was so shinely I could damn near see myself. Then about threw up when I realized I could see myself. But, I want to clean up the metal a little bit more, set the head in and away it goes.

I think its gonna work great cuz it will be cleaning all 4 sides of the head at the same time, lots of surface there, so it shouldn't get dirty to fast. I'll be disappointed if this head deosn't turn out real good.

OK, we're off and cookin at 1:45pm Central time. I immediatly starting seeing mega bubbles at both ends of the head, and also have the highest amperage reading on the charger yet. That tells me, my connections are great, and my steel strap is properly clean. I think this is gonna be good !!!
