And now we're off and cookin. Its on my front porch. Doing in my plastic kitchen trash can. It ALMOST covers the whole head standing up. Using a 4in 1/4 in thick channel iron. This time I am using a heavy duty charger. Its cookin @ 40amps. I am curious to see if this speeds up the process.

This is 5 minutes into it. Looks like its working good already. Of course, you see I found Washing Soda this time, instead of baking soda. :waytogo:

I'm about 15 minutes inrto now. Charger is still going, no power or extension cords are hot, no neg or pos leads are hot, but the water sure is blurping alot and its already completely covered in Orange foam. Its taking the rust off. I also left all the grease and nasty stuff on it this time too. I want to see how well it cleans everything. Its supposed to remove the paint, grease, rust and all. We'll see. I think I might let it run overnight.

So if it can be done in trash can then I could probably use a flat type storage container for the intake right?

Sure. You can use any container you like provided it doesn't conduct electricity. Shape or size doesn't matter much.

I let the process continue and checked it several times throughout. Here a couple of pics of how ugly the water got. Also you can see some of the foam from where it was bubbling pretty good. This **** was cooking good. I always checked the cords and leads too, they never got even warm let alone hot. So I think its OK to run at that 40amp. Doesn't mean it was getting the full 40amp, but it was sure bubbling more than when I did it with the 10amp. Maybe cuz the last time was a 55 gallon drum too, this was only about 11 instead of 25 gallons.

I'm not real impressed this time. I am to a degree, but being an experimental type project, I probably should be. I also think I learned a few things this time too. Here's a list of what I thnk I figured out this time.

1. The bigger charger at 40amp, did help the process work quicker.
2. Washing Soda certainly does work better than Baking Soda
3. This process DOES NOT remove the grease. I'd have better results if I had cleaned all the grease off first and let the process concentrate on the rust.
4. I should have checked the Electrode, in this case, the channel iron and cleaned it off somewhere in mid process.
5. I noticed it cleaned the side facing the electrode much better, so yes, its best to use an electrode that can be on at least 2 sides of your project being cleaned.

I really doesn't look like the one side got cleaned at all, but if you go back and look at the before pics, it still did a good job. Had I cleaned off the channel iron, I think the process would have done better. Also I should have turned the other side to face the electrode. Learning more and more about it. Sooner or later, I'll get the bugs and kinks worked out and this will be a good tool.

Yeah, its nasty. Next time I know, clean all the grease off first, so it can work harder on the rust. And to clean off the electrode, so it can keep working at max efficiency, and put electrodes on both sides of the project, or at least rotate it about mid way thru. That ran for 8 hours. Still a huge difference, but I know it could have been better. I will re run that same head again at some point, and expect it to be all clean of rust. Gonna use new water and washing powder though, and rig up a 2 or 3 sided electrode.

Should do with a garage door for ventilation or it is ok to do it in a closed garage?
