This really baffles me. My vortec head HT383 was basically undrivable in winter for the first 20+ minutes or so of driving. So much fuel puddled up in the cold intake manifold. That would then lead to the spark plugs clogging up.

But so it went when I did research on anything with my truck. 1/2 said no coolant bypass is needed. 1/2 said they have to have a coolant bypass and it the same thing with doing a rear brake disc conversion (works perfect vs you are gonna die).

Yeah, I remember we've been baffled in the past about it too. Granted, you do much more cold weather driving than me and much colder temps too. But there's been times where it's 15-20 degrees, I start up the truck and then drive off a minute or so later.

I have a set on my 350 with a cam and performer intake. Like everyone has mentioned they are not all that great and I would not buy a set, but I had them so I used them. I set my motor/ cam up for torque and not horsepower. If I remember right swirl port heads are not high rpm heads, usually run out of breath around 4800- 5000 rpm. Good luck with your build!
