That was a FRAM filter that came apart. Won’t be using them any longer. WIX and Napa gold from now on.
Not positive but I think that the Napa gold filters are made by Wix

Yeah, Napa Gold filters are made by Wix. As soon as I saw your pic of the plugged up pickup tube with filter material, I was thinking "I bet that was a Fram filter." Wix/Napa Gold are darn good filters.

Had time to do quick easy mod to the oil pump today. Removed the pressure relief valve spring cap and added .100 worth of shims (washers) between spring and cap. Should bump oil pressure by 10 psi. Also inspected the pump rotors and housing. Everything looked good and is ready to back in.

Maybe $25. Hardest part to find was the m16-1.5 to 1/4 NTP adaptor. With out waiting several days to order one, I ended up at our local wrecking yard and pulled the oil passage plug from a junk block. Then drilled and tapped it for 1/8 NTP. The sprayer bottle didn’t need much. Just the air hose fitting and 1/4 inch hose routed to the bottom of the bottle.

make sure you've got everything plugged up when you prime. I forgot to put the sender on there....and I used an air compressor to push the oil in. Needless to say, I had a clean/slick spot on the floor shortly after I figured out it was pouring out the back lol.

Had you done anything previous to this that would of upped the stock oil flow?

No. I have put close to 18 k on the truck before the filter issue. The pump shim was suggested by a trusted engine builder. Not much different than Melling selling a pump with two different oil pressure springs.

Just had a thought will cleaning the front of the engine. The rags I have been using for years leave a bit of fuzz on rough surfaces. Wondering if that is what I am seeing in the pickup tube. Curious thing is that why did it take 18k miles to become a problem. I spoke with FRAM today and there low level inspection of the filter in I sent them shows the filter element to be intact but there was some foreign material in the element. That guy said it will go to engineering for further in-depth inspection. I did send them the pictures I have of the pickup tube and what was removed from it.

Brother, the pictures you post earlier sure look more like filter debris than fuzz from a rag unless you aren't meticulous with cleaning. Wouldn't expect Fram to admit fault anyway

I like to think I am very particular about being clean. I do remember rinsing the short block with diesel just for this kind of thing. Either way, once all the parts arrive it goes back together.
I have recently picked up a boar scope for house project, I hope to be able to use it to check on the the pickup tube through the oil pan drain.

Valve spring and cam swap complete. Just need a few more parts and it can go back together.
