Oil pump and new timing chain installed. Still waiting on new cam plate. Used the old cam plate to allow some oil to be pushed through the bottom end. The oil priming tank worked great. 20 psi of air in the tank easily pushed oil through the engine.

Back up running. Sounds great with the new cam. Now I have some tuning to do.

First round of tuning went well. Some minor changes to MAF table. The idle is being a bit difficult. With idle set to 725, when i blip the throttle the rpms will sometimes stay around 1k or dip down to about 500. Talk to a tuning buddy this morning, he suggested pulling timing out of base idle timing table. Will try that this evening.

Well that didn’t work. Idle still occasionally dips to 500. More research to do.

Drove the truck to work today, other than the minor idle tuning issue the truck runs great with its latest mods.

Well, looks like it’s time to eat a little crow. Went to change the oil this morning after putting a couple hundred miles on the 77 after the whole plugged oil pickup tube deal. With the use of a bore scope inserted in the oil pan drain, I saw the that the pickup tube was partially plugged again!!! After removing the oil pan again, I found the remnants of a rag caught in the windage tray. For the life of me I can’t figure out why it took almost two years for it to become problem and how I didn’t see it last week when I had the pan off. . Anyway, it appears the FRAM filter was not the cause this time. Just have myself to blame.

Checked the oil pickup screen again today. No debris!! Looks like I finally got all the of that rag out of it. Back to regular oil changes.

On the plus side... you got an upgraded cam, pickup tube, oil pump, and valve springs

I'm putting together my 454 this weekend... "rag in engine" is now definitely on my list of things to check for before I button it up. Glad you got it figured out before the motor got bent.
