    More HP or lower gears?

Always go gears first, imo. Most effective way to overcome mechanical disadvantages as opposed to simply throwing more power at it. I would agree with 4.88's also. Only moving one ratio on the chart seems like a waste of $$$.

    Small block 400

You are right as well. With the calculator I used, I used a zero deck and 22cc dished pistons to achieve the "factory rated" ratio. A guy at work had a 400 with the pistons as much as .055 in the hole!! I think that figured to about 7:1! Talk about shitty compression!

    Small block 400

Why do you say it is too small? Assuming a "stock" 8.5:1 CR, going from the stock 76cc to a 64cc will raise your compression about a full point, to around 9.4:1, on a 400. I see nothing wrong with that. Still fully compatible with pump gas and all the benefits that come with better...

    Electric fan Conversion

When something "fails" on an electrical set-up, you usually lose all fan function. It then comes down to what needs to be fixed, how far away is the fix, and can you make it there without overheating your engine. When a mechanical clutch set-up "fails", it usually involves the clutch...

Where does this go on my Quadrajet?

Thanks guys! I know exactly where it goes now! I was looking at that area just wondering to myself how everything goes together in that area. I am finding I need to do more research and get more materials, right now I feel like I am in over my head.

Where does this go on my Quadrajet?

Can anyone help me out? This is the one little part I do not have a picture of where it goes. I think it goes on the outside of it somewhere, but I don't know where. Picture of it in place would be awesome. Quadrajet Power

    Wanted 3.21 gear set

Is this to replace the 4.56's in your extended cab? Just curious here, why 3.21's specifically? I would think a 3.73 or 3.42 ratio would be in the mix also. Might have better luck with broader expectations.

Connecting with a laptop with Tuner Pro RT and DIY cable.

Will be coming back and reading more in-depth later. Been slowly gathering stuff to do a TBI swap onto my '79. The computer part is the only thing I haven't fully hashed out yet. Good work GeorgeB.

what lift height do I have?

Were your bumper measurements to the top of the bumpers?

what lift height do I have?

 I just measured my stock height '79, and to the bottom of the bumpers is about 20 1/2", both front and rear. That is with 265/75-16 tires that measure an actual 30 1/2" tall. My fender measurements are both about 36 1/2". Going with this, add 5 1/2" for your tires over mine...

what lift height do I have?

Putting this all together... 17.5" measured minus the 11" stock says 6 inches of suspension lift. The 6" body lift :mfr_omg: makes it about 12"of total lift. Looks about right.

What have you done to your square lately??

Scraping gaskets off the heads so new intake gaskets can go on. Intake, valve covers and air cleaner painted. Now I just need to get everything back together and hope it runs.

    Badge/emblem placement for 77 scottsdale?

Little later than I thought it would be, but here it is. I used a rigid steel rule for the measurements. I measured from the large square part of the emblem DOWN to the fender crease, and then BACK to the fender edge. Both measurements were basically 3". If you wanted to get superbly...

I will get you some measurements to the emblem edges when I get home today.

    Driver4r's Monte

I was just looking at retro-fits for my 400. I would agree too, starting fresh I would try to find a roller block. But I want to keep my extra 50ci. so I will be doing a conversion. What are the specs on the cam you are going with Driver4r?

    Driver4r's Monte

Are you having to get retro-fit lifters? Which ones are you going with? Couldn't remember if you had a roller ready block or not.

    G-body Headers on a Square??

At the moment there are none on my local CL, but I have seen probably a dozen sets over the last 4 months or so. Most of them are between $40-$100 for used ones. A couple of new sets have been around $200. I have also seen a couple of decent sets on montecarloss.com. I can keep my eyes open...

    472 cadillac engine swap

Cool swap indeed! IIRC, these big engines weigh about the same as a small block. Big power in a relatively light package. Aftermarket EFI would be really cool on it! Yes, I know the OP is thinking carb.

    G-body Headers on a Square??

I have some brand new headers hanging in my garage waiting to go on my SS, at some point hopefully. I got to wondering if anyone has ever tested the fitment of G-body headers on a squarebody? I am not saying I want to use them, but I do seem to run into deals for G-body headers much more...

Less Exhaust Pressure on one side of engine

What is your actual exhaust set-up? I don't know the what they were like from the factory, or how yours is now, so this is a shot in the dark. If the exhaust merges into a single cat., then splits back into two, then that very well may be your answer. Seems like the exhaust usually comes...

Vortecs are still better than double humps. Back in the day double humps were top dog, but not these days.

Quadrajet & TBI = Cool Air

You could have just gotten an air cleaner from a newer square. My '79 has a snorkel about the same size as the TBI one does, factory set-up for the heat pipe and everything.
