Why doesn't anyone use the Chevy "Connect & Cruise" packages?

It’s going in a ‘71 Jaguar XJ-6 if I get it, so no smog concerns.

Why doesn't anyone use the Chevy "Connect & Cruise" packages?

I think I got a deal in the works for an ‘07 Escalade with the L92 for cheap, has a rear main leak and the cats are no good. Seller is responsible for smog in CA unless it’s non operational. CARB approved Y pipe and cats is $2K and the shop estimate for rear seal is 12 hours. Repair would cost...

    Cab bottom pics needed

That is a heavy coat of epoxy, white tinted raptor liner, base coat, and a medium solids clear coat. No experience with the 3M undercoat but most everything 3M is quality product. I’ve used U-pol raptor liner on some projects and Dad did the bottom of his ‘56 and under hood with U-pol...

    Dual Tanks Fuel switch delete

^^^ This If the system would work well without a selector valve GM wouldn’t have spent the money putting them in. If you need to hack it to get by for a while, then so be it. Whichever tank has less resistance to pull the fuel from may end up getting ran dry faster than the other. When my...

    Cab bottom pics needed

@legopnuematic beat me to it but here’s another, also a picture of the skids I built to hold my cab until the bodywork was done and it was ready to go back on the frame. Probably easiest to just tip the cab on its back to paint the underside

    Aux battery for audio

Basically…. Positive amplifier wire directly to the battery terminal fused within 18” or so of the battery Most people ground to the body near the amplifier, I took it one step further and grounded to the frame under the cab. That’s one of the reasons everyone is stressing the importance of the...

Daughters ‘87 needs to ride smooth.

Auto manufacturers are also under tremendous pressure to increase the efficiency of their vehicles, customers want better fuel mileage and the federal government taxes manufacturers more in vehicles that are less efficient. Maxing tire pressure is the cheapest economical modification possible...

    Aux battery for audio

Soooooo... Is the negative terminal on the cranking battery only attached to the core support? I know its common for the negative to be attached to the core support with like a 12 Ga wire, however there should be like a 4 Ga (approximate) from the negative terminal to the block or alternator...

Daughters ‘87 needs to ride smooth.

Here are some things to try: Let some air out of the tires - Definitely make sure you're not running at the sidewall rated max PSI Run a 'P' series tire instead of an 'LT' 6 ply tire Run a 15" tire/wheel with tall sidewall instead of a low profile Softer spring rate Use bonded rubber (cleveite...

    What are these holes for?

Consumables are pretty standard Tweco style stuff... I assume hard parts will be difficult to find if/when internal parts break. My Dad bought it mid 2000's or so, Panasonic was big time involved with industrial welders and robots back then so we figured they weren't going anywhere. They...

    What are these holes for?

Mig welds and body filler work pretty good getting rid of fender holes...

    Where does this go???

Illumination wires are typically grey IIRC @75gmck25 is correct, constant hot should be orange Green wires are typically associated with cruise control and A/C IIRC, I know several GM cars use green for the A/C compressor switch wire

    Engine Paint Color Question

it's your truck, paint it whatever color you think looks good. You’re more likely to get judged for sloppy work than for color choice.

Surface rust. What are the best practices?

Eh…. Squirt some lube on the latch mechanism and push it closed. I suppose you can work the latch a few times to ensure it moves first. Hood latches don’t get real scary until it’s the first time closing the hood after paint and reassembly

Trying to remove plastic knob on side vent

I couldn’t find a great picture but The plastic rod hooks to a “u” shaped rod that slips through 2 holes in the vent flapper. Can’t remember for the life of me what the clip looks like. The whole assembly isn’t too bad to remove from the cab, the upper screws are a little tough to get at and...

    Ls swap mounting issue

Dipstick tube should be able to move a bit, just bend the tab where it’s bolted to the bell housing

Also… at $17K from Summit probably cheaper than what the original goes for

Surface rust. What are the best practices?

not sure on the bed… The stuff in the cab I would knock any loose stuff off and epoxy or encapsulate. A D/A with 220 should make light work of it. The hood latch should be in the grille on a ‘74, right in the center at the top. Based on the amount of light rust you should definitely make...
