Got my hood on finally , with the help of my step son and the wife . She did the bolts , got door jamb painted along with the inside of the door . Some final hood adjustments will be required. Got the door pretty close to factory specs on gaps . Fender back on again ! So a lot more to do . One day at a time and the heat has been crazy in South Carolina. Had a cool spell low 80 's that helps

Great idea with work trucks fo sho. The company I work for now does that. And I seen it with the oilfield rental trucks.
I work for a small rural Alberta county. Our crews don't often get back in the truck clean either - so being able to remove and clean or replace a seat cover is a great way to keep the truck interior clean and the operator happy.

I replaced the transfer case front output seal. It's a fairly easy job, its better if you have a lift. I don't:confused:. I found removing the front shaft made it a lot easier. It frees up some room to install the new seal. I had to do the old freezer trick on the seal. I couldn't get it to start going in the case. After cooling it down for an hour, it magically went in. I have more work to do as usual on these old trucks.
It looks like the front drive shaft still has the OEM joints. The rear cardon for sure, note the plastic **** sticking out. The front one three of the 4 were a pile of rust. It's amazing one still had some grease in it. I'm going to try and rebuild it. It looks like the slide has a seal. I don't find it when looking for parts. How difficult is it to rebuild the CV joint? Next, it's on to the rear brakes, and an installing a lunch box locker that I've had for a year.

You know the automotive gods will play tricks on you. I had found an open gallon of transmission fluid on a shelf in my shop. It looked good and was almost a full gallon. I said good deal, that will save me some money. I set it on the floor and went about my business. Yesterday I was filling up the T- case using the fluid from the open gallon. Two quarts in, and the fluid started turning dark. I was pouring it from the gallon to a smaller container. I pored some more, and it smelled like used motor oil. I'm like what the heck is going on. Come to find out the stepson poured some used oil out of his motorcycle into the open container. It sat a few days, and the oil sank to the bottom. Oh well. The new fluid cost me 46.00. It's 27.00 a gallon , or 9 .00 a quart. I bought 5 qt's

There is the centering ball to deal with, but otherwise just like other U joint jobs. Mark everything before tear down to keep phasing correct.

Awesome thanks. The CV joint still moves fairly smooth, you can still feel the spring force it back in place. I'm hoping the ball is ok, and just the u joints need to be replaced. I'll buy the kit any way. Have you seen the seal on the sliding yoke for sale any where ?

I found a listing for the slip yoke seals. They are called dust boots they are a Spicer part. Northern Drive Train carries them. Now to find the correct one.

Finally finished the new rear axle over the weekend. Worked on getting the old cast iron prop valve for rear discs replaced today. 3 casualties on the brake lines. I've been soaking em with Kroil for weeks but it did no good. Every nut on the outlets rounded off.
A big thanks to the guy who thought it was a good idea to put it on the crossmember lol.

The only thing I needed to do was shave a little from the shroud and that was it. I used a file and rasp. My neighbor saw me doing that and asked why I don't cut it. Because it just needs a little shaved off, not a slice taken out. High efficiency core, looks like an original radiator, too.

Ordered my dust seal for the slip yoke. The splines look ok. I have always kept this greased over the years. The shafts are keyed just like the transmission, with one larger spline. just as I had guessed there was no sign of a seal. It must have deteriorated years ago. See the link below. The u joints, ball, spring kit, and dust seal should be here in time for a weekend project. I'm going to clean and paint the front shaft.

I noticed my fan clutch has been hanging on and a slow warm up. I did some reading last night and found I needed a severe duty as that was the stock clutch versus the heavy duty I had. Hayden 215045 is the stock clutch for an 80 with AC.

Also found that Murray 2797 is the cross and OReallys had one.

So, in it went.

OE 5 bladed fan P/N pic for reference if needed.

Severe duty clutch is the upper one.
