I've got the 305 I pulled out of my pickup. It ran fine but smoked a bit. If you can figure out a way to pick it up, you can have the whole thing if you want it.

I meant break in for a flat tappet cam, not a roller lol.

anyways I may end up just redoing the 305 because I know that crank is smooth, but it needs 2 pistons, and just keep it fairly close to stock rebuild, and save the 350 for something later. I'd really like to get myself a camaro or trans am, like 77-81 style, or maybe a square body 2wd and have the 350 for it and hgopefully be in a position to buil dit better later, maybe 383 or roller cam.

but that's all still up in the air.

for now I'm going to make another thread about cam in a 305 and one for sale to try and sale off some tbi parts to earn some cash to rebuild a motor for mine.

 That's one way to get your junk hauled off. I was once GIVEN a 350. So hell yeah, I'll take it. Get over there to pick it up from a buddies, buddies neighbor. Hell, I got there and it was a 305. The guy couldn't believe I was just going to leave a FREE motor there. :laughing1: I told him it's not a 350, it's a 305. You can't even give'm away. And it's not worth my time and effort to unload and take up space that I need. Sorry dude. Call a scrapper, he'll get $3 for it. (That was back in the 80's when scap didn't pay crap).

But, in this case, sounds like a runner that get Chris by and buy some time. :waytogo: Just install the whole motor and run some SAE 30 in it and your oil changes oil from other vehicles and let it smoke a little bit.

Yep, it's worthless junk other that the fact it's complete besides a carb and it's dead reliable. It smoked mainly when you would nail it and wind it out. I suspect the oil drain holes in the heads may need cleaned out.

Sounds like a great motor to patch up a truck and buy some time to rebuild another motor though. I think I'd install the whole thing. Tuned right, won't be a power house, but might get some fair mpg. I hear some say they get much better with a Wee O Five and I hear some say they get the same with their Tree Fitty too !!!

I averaged 15.5 with it. Hard to say about power, it was a dog, but the truck also has 2.56 gears. Even the 454 doesn't particularly care for that nonsense.

That's just stupid IMO. 2.56 and 2.73's should be outlawed.:pp: I don't even care for 3.08's but for those who have a purpose of mostly light duty highway driving and no OD, 3.08's work well for those people. 3.42 is a good starting point in a half ton, and 3.73 in a 3/4. :beatdeadhorse5:

But hey, I'd rock a 305 with 3.08's or 3.42s to get 15mpg. I wouldn't expect performance out of it. I've even considered a 4.3 carbed. It doesn't do much good to fix up a nice square to get 9-11mpg if you can't afford to drive it and it sits in the driveway all the time. If I ever get rich I'd like to do a CNG conversion on a square and make it my DD. Plenty of CNG stations around here now. Not on every corner, but they're available.

I just went out in the shed and I do have the WeeOFive pistons I thought I saved, but after further checking, they are .040 over. Sorry Dawg. I remember now, that lady was pissed cuz she had the motor rebuilt and it hinged 2 rod thru the pan at just under 50K miles on the rebuild. If you can use .040 over, I actually have 3 of them.

I just need some stockers for it.

Right now it's on hold I'm actually working on a square, the old mans 84, body work again lol. Rust is a killer, it acutally ate holes in the new replacement upper arch.

yep she's back in the garage now. I've swapped out the trans. case to a non cracked ones. I also did the dual feed setup on it while it was apart. I've cleaned and painted the case, the t-case and the engine. Then I removed the core support when I got it back in the garage to make it easier to install the motor/trans/t-case all in one.
