The thick gasket creates a better vac signal. Thus the reason it ran better with it in there

OK, then lemme ask this. Has this truck EVER run good with this intake on it? Here's why I ask. Some of the Summit brand intakes are made by Wiend and I've heard some were made by ProComp which is cheap China ****. Now they all aren't bad and if you got a good one, then you got a good one and it can work well. Some of the ProComp intakes have been known to have runners have been off. Meaning they don't match the head ports. The way to know is to lay an intake gasket on the intake runners and compare to make sure all your intake runners will match up with the gasket and heads.

I'll assume you've already done a vac leak search using some carb cleaner or starting fluid? You can use WD-40 too but it doesn't discipate like the other 2 and leaves a mess on your motor. Spray the intake runners down both sides, across the front where it meets the block, and also along the back. The back is hard to do, but it still works. Just spray it back there while motor is running and if it idles up or smoothes out, then you know it sucked it in and there's your problem or 1 of them. Then spray around the base of the carb. Just sounds to me like all the classic signs of bad vac leak somewhere. And the whistling kinda makes me think it can be internal.

The truck ran fine when I bought it, but the eddy started running richer the longer I drove it. Finally got to where I couldn't get it to lean up, so I had mark build this qjet. They night I put it on the truck would scream. Never ran better, but it wouldn't hold an idle. Could increase idle sped screw and it would work until you killed the engine, then it wouldn't hold an idle again. I have checked for vac leaks around intake and haven't found one. I will start with swapping gaskets. I will pull the adapter off and make sure there is no debris between intake and gasket.

I don't know. I have a timing light but haven't had time to figure out how to use it. The body lift and 33s make it same as impossible to get to the timing marks. I have spent hours reading about timing and don't feel like I know anymore now than I did before.

It's super simple. Just know that... what have you learned about timing?

Absolutely nothing. I like to consider myself fairly mechanically inclined, but when everybody has their own opinions on the matter and most of the material I have read has been arguments on forums it's just left me confused. When I got the truck the timing was all out of wack, so a guy that was helping me look over the truck for problems "set" it by ear by messing with the distributor, but idk that he really helped anything.

I will get the timing light on it tomorrow. Picking the new gasket up tonight and will get it on tomorrow as well. Maybe I can get it drivable this weekend. I still haven't picked up a tach or a vac gauge yet, but that's going to have to wait a bit.

I'd add some Msd timing tape to your list. It's like 9 bucks

I will get some of that as well. Anything else I need to get? What else could the problem be if it's not a gasket Or timing issue? What are the chances it's choke related? Isn't that adjustable some how?

Lol ask away.If the choke was closing that would be the cause for your issues.but you say it's not. Here's something to check. And a free fix. Take off the distributor cap, hold the rotor near the screws and twist it Question?Does it trust with light force?Does it snap back to its original position? Burrr it's cold..
