Okay this is ghetto but it'll get you by in a pinch. Make a long jumper lead out of speaker wire, connect 1 lead to temp sensor,1 to ground under hood. Route into cab, connect these 2 ends to multi meter leads. Monitor temp sensor resistance. Leave your meter some where easy to reach read and turn on and off.

I think he meant his needle is just like this
You can still read it you just need to have a straight on view and know its pointing that way lol

At ~6k feet. I replaced the radiator hose and put spring clamps instead of hose clamps.

I replaced the hose, which was a Gates 22187, with a Gates 22013 using Dorman help 14186 spring hose clamps

What altitude are you at? At altitude, the thinner air will make water boil at a lower temp. A 50/50 mix of water/antifreeze could be affected. The altitude can also make the engine run rich unless adjusted for that altitdude. I have had rich running engines idle at lower rpm.
Good luck with your issue.
That Altitude shouldn’t affect the coolant enough to matter. But you’re correct it affects boiling point, say straight water at like 10kft alt boils at under 200deg.

those dorman ones are good enough quality you feel and strong? I might get some myself!

And I d recommend some plastic conduit protection or some other friction reducing method for the hose if its resting on the shroud

If you want to try this hose (if the ends are the right size) so it clears the shroud , just might take a different t stat housing
The gates number is what you can use if you want one, the plastic came with it for me

I think my lower hose is a gates too, theres plastic it came with

Oh yeah they're good quality for sure. Definitely not flimsy and definitely won't have issues with them
did you apply them with a channel locks or a dedicated tool? They dont by chance have a "lock open" feature like some newer versions of those clamps (2000s newer cars, not always)
i ask because the paint looks removed on the part that you use to open them, id probably paint them before using them especially on the lower radiator hose with something like an epoxy paint maybe ,
but i also have the tool that opens them without biting like a channel lock
