smoothandlow, if you're disagreeing with me on the need for a ground wire, the ash tray housing is bonded to the dash via the pivot pins and springs. The dash is bonded to the body.. And lastly, the body is connected to the battery negative via ground wires and the negative battery cable.. So no - no ground wire is needed.. If your post was made to emphasize my post, then disregard this post...Again...yes, you do need a ground and a power source for the cigarette lighter aka power terminal to work...its how dc power works.
