Big yellow is finally getting a radio soon. It's been a firetruck it's whole life till I got her. I'm putting in a period aera am/fm radio in it. Only planning to hook up to one speaker. The center dash speaker. Looking from underneath there is no speaker up in there.

My questions are. A- How hard is it to install that speaker? B- where should I get one from. I want it to last and sound OK for a single speaker. Thanks in advance for any Intel.

Installation is easy. Just pull the dash cover off and there's a hole looking for a speaker. My truck didn't have that speaker so there may be a bracket involved that I'm unaware of. First thing to check is if your dash pad has the perforations in it for the sound to come thru?

Good question root. Just looked and actually have 3 perforated areas.
I might as well get all 3.

Sweet. I'll make a suggestion based on my experience. Forget the center speaker. It's an oddball size, requires a very small magnet to fit in the factory hole. Suggest getting a pair of 3 or 3-1/2'"coaxial speakers for the corners. MUCH better sound. I have 8 speakers and a sub in my truck and the small ones in the dash make a big difference in bringing the sound stage up and in front of you. I have these Kenwood's and they will drop right in place. Easy Peasy

Shizer! Thanks @SquareRoot ! I think I'm hooked up! My wife got me these for Christmas for 1983 pre Reagan bumper regal coup fronts. My plans for that care have changed so I probably won't be needing them. Perfect

Here's the bracket my '85 had a the front dash corners. If you don't have them you may need to fab something. I put my speaker on the under side of the bracket to clear the tweater (yes those screws got trimmed).

new to the site and not sure where to post pictures in a place where it would be most helpful for the overall GMSB community, but I installed a retro-modern stereo, four 3.5" speakers across the front dash, two 4"x10" speakers in the back, and a subwoofer under the driver seat earlier this year- happy to share if helpful. good luck!

Sorry for not updating and completing this little project, I've had other projects take precedence lately. Anyways I removed the diamond plate radio hole cover and I'm pretty sure someone has cut this thing out? Or am I wrong? If it's been cut I'll have to make a plate fit the radio then graft it into my dash.

That's a factory double-din hole which makes sense if your truck is a '91.
