Hey guys, can anyone tell me anything about or send pictures of a factory installed receiver hitch on square body k10s (if there is such a thing)? I have a 1977 trailering special k10 and the hitch that is on it does not look like the normal hitches that you buy and bolt / weld on... it looks like a bunch of seperate pieces of metal welded to different parts of the frame and just behind the bumper. More home made looking but not a horrible job of it. Looks a little sketchy though. Just wondering if this could be factory or dealer installed on trailering special.
Thanks in advance.

There absolutely is such a thing as a factory hitch on a K10.

It's not going to be welded to the frame, though. It will be a welded unit bolted to the underside of the frame rails.

K
wasnt it a super common dealer accessory that may have been confused with a factory

This isnt the best pic but will give an idea of it. Just happened to have this on my phone. Everything looks like angle iron and welded together and welded to the frame

I would assume that a "Trailering Special" edition would have come with a hitch but kinda doubt it looked like what i have. Irs been there a while though.

When many vehicles were new, some times when the customer wanted a trailer hitch the dealership would contact A supplier locally and they would come out and install it. And it would be financed in with the price of the new vehicle

Normally, the hitch, sometimes wiring to the rear of the vehicle (bare wires, not a plug), and an oil cooler up front.

I know with mine it had everything but the harnesses. Go figure....
Depends on the year. You can go on the GM heritage website and look up the vehicle information kit for your year and at the back of the kit they will describe exactly what is included in the trailering special RPO. Its usually higher GVW, hitch, extra external cooler/HD cooling package.
