That's a very well constructed shade tree platform hitch. Unless I'm mistaken, all factory option GM frame mounted platform hitches were bolt-on.

stepside and short bed both probably dictate a more custom option

Crazy, they put receivers on everything but…..
Cant even find a picture anywhere, how long were these trucks in production and nobody has a receiver. I have a line on a hidden one where the license plate folds down, again no pictures. Argh

I believe that most people use a standard shortbed hitch that's designed for use with a step bumper. I've seen it many times and that's what was on my shortbed when I got it. The receiver tube just sticks out past the license plate by several inches.

When I installed the stepside bed and bumper, I removed the hitch because it was too "visible" and I thought it took away from the look of the truck. I later ended up building my own receiver hitch that's hidden behind the license plate.

@Loren here's a few pictures from a while back. The first picture is the best one I could find of the standard hitch. I think it was Curt brand.

With the hidden hitch, you have to be careful with your hitch selection. It has to be long enough to clear the flipped down plate, if using a drop hitch (not an issue with a little 2wd pickup. But you still don't want to use a stubby hitch, as it makes it too easy to clobber your bumper when backing up to the trailer.

Lol yeah, from underneath. But, it's actually not hard to do. You can see what you are doing through the top gap between the bed, as your hands work below the bumper. You don't have to lay down on the ground or anything.

Lol, unfortunately I've got some big issues with my knees at times. I've already been on the ground unintentionally a few times. Can't wait for it to get worse

I bought a Draw Tite class 4 hitch from the yard for $ 20. It was mounted on a square body 2 WD frame. I'm not sure of the year truck. I had to make 2x2 square tubing spacer blocks for the hitch to clear the bumper on my K-10. It bolted on with Three 1/2" bolts per side. Two out of the 3 bolt holes lined up with holes in the frame. I had to drill the other holes. I think the rear bumper is an after market or dealer installed one. It's a step bumper and seems to be heavy duty. It drops down low on the frame. I had to remove 2 small diagonal braces for the hitch to clear and holes to line up.

Alright, bought a Curt hitch #13028, supposed to fit not. Reciever ends up half way behind the license plate, alright, flip up plate holders available. Mount doesn’t fit flush with the frame. These trucks were made for 14 years? Nobody makes a bolt on receiver for a short bed Stepside, I’m confused.
