Anyone use a DCC fan controller?

I thought about using a resistor and making my own two speed harness with some beefy relays, decided against it because I'm trying to get by with my stocker alternator for now and resistors would't reduce the power consumption. While the simplicity would definitely be more reliable if the right...

Anyone use a DCC fan controller?

I'm planning on running a single fan from a 2010ish police interceptor. I definitely want a soft start to prolonge the life of my fan and ease the electrical load. That and I'm hoping I can squeak by with my 63 amp alternator since I never sit in traffic or do much to strain it, so running it at...

What are these holes in my intake?

The hole next to the thermostat spot is just an alternative location for you temp sensor, not sure about small blocks but early big blocks used a manifold sensor and didn't have a spot in the heads for one. It's handy if you want to use a fan controller or some self learning EFI without messing...

    Venturi to increase exhaust?

I'd be most interested in how it would sound at speed. Far as flow I think you'd want to rest of the exhaust to be as free flowing as possible, if you had to much of a resistance after the Venturi you'd just have a slightly compressed column of air for your engine to push through. Perhaps after...

    15 inches of vacuum

I vote try advancing the timing. Since you had a shop do it I bet they just used the factory spec which is often retarded for emissions. Early on I ran my truck at 4° advance as the spec was until our neighbor suggested advancing to around 10° initial and that really woke it up. Gained an mpg...

Anyone use a DCC fan controller?

So I've been searching around for fan controllers recently and stumbled upon this site. http://www.dccontrol.com/constant_temperature_controllers.htm From what I've read about them it's really high quality but abit hit and miss when it comes to customer service and how long it takes to get it...

How much fluid is in a 350 block?

If you're worried about the ratio get one of those antifreeze testers. Fill your radiator 50/50 mix until about 3/4, run it abit to mix it all. Then test your fluid to see if it's where you want it freezing point wise. Then adjust from there by adding antifreeze or water.

    doors off driving?

Would be nice for some back roads fun, but the dust where I live would be overwhelming. I keep a toolset in my cab and some other things so I'd be a touch nervous leaving it parked in town.

Where can I find this part?

Far as the hose you can use fuel line, it's designed not to collapse.

    My 454 build

That's how my origanal motor died, nut backed off a connecting rod and my piston shattered. But I was going quite fast when it happened, probably 90-100 mph. The rod put a nice crack in my bore and that was that. My connecting rods were numbered and oil pickup welded on so I knew it was rebuilt...

    454 Exhaust recomendation

I've always thought a set of Doug Thorley's tri-y headers would be great if you can justify the costs. Better for mid range than long tube headers and they fit easier since you're just running two pipes down by the frame...

    4wd 4l80e to 2wd

So I have a buddy who'd give me a 4wd 4l80e. It hasn't run for a long time but it was alright when left. How much effort/expense would it take to convert it to a 2wd tail housing? Around here 2wd 4l80es command a 300-400 $ premium over 4wd. This is all a ways off but I got to thinking swapping...

    save gas

My biggest improvement came from advancing my timing. The factory spec was 4°, my neighbor suggested advancing it to 10 and I picked up 2 mpg and could do burnouts afterward (from a stand still with a jab to the gas, no brakes). If you're at a hgh altitude you can advance a touch more, just pull...

    400 sbc cam choice

I've been eyeing the lunati voodoo series myself, based on their compression recommendation 10120704 would work for you. If you can justify the cost I'd suggest going roller, don't have to worry about zddp in your oil and more performance. But above all else I suggest getting a recommendation...

    fuel pump issues

Should just be the one pump. Have you checked your fuel filter? Beyond that I'd suggest seeing if the pump will feed from a gas can. If it does you probably have a problem earlier in your line. I have gotten several dud fuel pumps so it wouldn't surprise me if you got one too.

    Add a Tach

Looking at this site http://gmsports.com/content/new-tachometer-1973-1988-chevy-and-gmc-trucks and reading the instructions you would only need to run one wire to the distributor, the power and ground use the existing printed circuit. Though you would need to cut away some of the plastic for it...

    Add a Tach

Huh, I looked for the combo myself, couldn't find it either. I coulda sworn LMC had it, guess I'm mistaken. If they were smart with the combo gauge it would use the power and ground connection already there for the fuel gauge. So you would just have to run 1 wire to the distributor, if that's...

    Add a Tach

lmc sells a tach/fuel gauge combo if you want to keep your gas gauge in the same spot. They also sell regular tachs and the little fuel gauges along with a new printed circuit if you want it to look totally factory. Then there are a few brands that sell all new clusters but those are quite...

    Timing help needed 400 smb

Honestly I like to start by setting total timing. About 36° with it revved up. If you're at a high elevation you can add a few degrees. If you get pinging or it struggles to start back off abit.

    Cooling fan horsepower

I agree, under the hood temps are more of a decider than outdoor. I was mainly thinking a summer day would probably be the average use case for most squares. Though since the fan is just behind the radiator it always has new air circulating instead of stewing in a placid spot. If we consider the...

    Cooling fan horsepower

So in an episode of engine masters they tested some common mechanical cooling fans to see how much horsepower they actually use. They had a mild 350 that made 349 hp and 406.9 ftlb. They were winding it out to around 5500 rpm. They had a radiator and shroud, all the fans were the same diameter...

    500 cfm edelbrock enough?

I've heard of plenty of people run 600 cfm edelbrock carbs on 454s, that carb will be just about perfect.
