Hey, has anyone used a blazer tank on a k-30 diesel? i know i would need all the parts and new/moved crossmembers. but i just want to know if its possible on the frame. truck will have a flatbed so the side spout is a definite plus. much better than replacing the big square box i have in there now.

I'm wanting to do the same tank replacement. I have the 25 gallon tank from a Suburban. Is the top of the gas tank up against the bottom of the bed?

No, you just need the correct sttraps for the tank. I did this years ago and it was sweet. I would suggest taking the bed off to do it.

I have the original tank straps, tank, and the cross members (still have the rivets in them), from a Suburban. I have a 73 short bed.

So, what I've read is that the tank fits between the back cross member and the spare tire cross member?

If I recall I had to add a cross memberto the front. I just used angle stock and made tabs for the straps. Wish I had some pics of it.

I had to modify my forward bracket because of where my tank ended up on the frame. It sits where the frame is cut up above the axle. Just cut the ends off, relocate them up a bit and add to braces on both sides, like this:

Exactly what @Georgeb said for both responses :waytogo: exactly what I did.

I looked at mine today to get an idea what needs to be done. The tire cross member needs to come off and the rear cross member needs to come off and moved back. Gives me another reason to go to Harbor Freight again! I don't have a hammer drill to cut off the big rivets. :)

Question, as mentioned above I'd like to move the rear cross member. Is this OK? It would give me a few more inches of axle clearance.

Yes that's ok :)

Wound up digging up this thread as i was trying to sort out a fuel filler method for this same mod. Granted this is is more for my '84 as it is getting a new box swapped on. The '86 is getting a deck so fuel filler is much easier on it. I am thinking of doing something similar to what was done with the filler coming through the bed floor but angled towards the back of the truck almost like one of those rear fill set ups on a car. As i will be more then likely be building some corner tool boxes for the '84 anyway i could easily hide the fill tube inside one. Have a false floor inside the box to hide it when the box is open. Well that and provide a spot to stash a couple bottles of fuel additive/gas line anti freeze. Have the filler itself face the tail gate so it is completely hidden when the gate is shut. What gave me this idea is seeing how the fill tube is lined up on the saddle tanks. It is set up very similar. Long pipe with a slight slope going into the front of the tank.

I moved the filler neck on my tank and have it point out the right rear of the truck. I'm running the filler neck through one of the bed channels and up through the hole in the corner and behind the tail light. I'm nowhere near complete with it but that's how I'm doing it. I bought the Klearz tail lights with the Rapid Fire LEDs so I have a ton of space in there now because the new housings take up far less space.
