Depends what you want, if you want a big block keep looking, if you want a small block lot of cheap crate motors out there, also big block crate motors too.. Decisions, decisions, lol..

I say run the 350 till you find a big block but I'm a bit bias on this topic.

Bolt it in. Are you going carb or staying TBI? That year will have torque but not a lot of hp. The heads and low compression make it a good tow engine up to about 4500 rpm.

98 and 95 are two pretty different animals. 98 is vortec - much better heads, but you'd have to figure out what to do for FI, if you're going that way. (or maybe just carb it?). 95 is TBI.

If you have the chance to convert from 350 TBI to Vortec 454, that's what I'd do. Otherwise, I'd keep the 350 and/or look for another. I know 350 TBI are pigs. You don't give much details on your truck. Is it 4x4? 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, Burb, PU  All these things matter when asking folks for opinions.

Personally, I prefer a peppy small block over a Peanut Port headed 454. Small Block are alot more common, easily found and easy and cheap to make fun to drive peppy and chirpy rides. Big Blocks are more uncommon, harder to find, more expensive, drink more fuel in MOST cases, but not all if you can discipline yourself. I'm not one that can do that. If I have the torque, I'm using that **** so there goes the fuel.

Also, is this your daily driver, a toy, your workhorse, your bad weather rig? What the purpose? Many factors to consider when making these choices.

In that case, if you can make that Vortec 454 system work, then I'd do that. Even better, if you can get a 4L80-E to go along with it since the Vortec 454 would have had a 4L80-E behind it so the same ECM for the Vortec 454 is going to operate the trans too then you've gotten around the need for the stand alone controller.
