What’s the plan these days?
Also, I ordered the 1987 GM Light Duty Truck Driveability and Emmissions manual that goes along with my 1987 LDT Service Manual. I want to study everything about the fuel system. You know it's kind of funny, I ordered the Service manual initially to have clear info on the fuel system and then after looking through it I realize that some of what I need to know is in the Sevice manual and the other 75% of fuel/ TBI info for 1987 is in the other manual that is supplement to the Sevice Manual.

That's all voodoo to me lol. Wish I would've paid more attention when I was younger when my dad was showing me about carbs. Need to get him to teach me now before he's gone
I’m still learning for sure. I went up on the primaries one step then another. Resulted in being too rich everywhere. So I backed off a step where everything is good except for the lean spot off idle- ordered a larger accelerator nozzle and hopefully that will do the trick. The AFR gauge is handy, but learning how to adjust the carb to get what I want is a little trial and error.

Got the u bolts in for the tie downs and rest of the wood bolted in(minus the center one I'm replacing) the fire grew to 6500 acres but the rain is supposed to hit this afternoon through the weekend so I think we are in the clear

Truck turned out nice. The weld up is always impressive to me, and hidden under the deck is very cool.
Wildfires look scary. Hope it does rain.

Well after I got back late today with my daughter from riding , I got that driver side tank down. Waiting on some hoses and have to get a filler and vent hose, but that can be done later if needed.

Yes I know about the reference library but I did want physical copies for my library, which is filled with deep mahogany and many leather bound books! Lol

i think thats because that manual was going to be very distinct compared to carburetion days, and that it probably applies to the other light duty trucks like the s10 and such?
So it has a larger scope, and instead of include it dupplicatively , knowing its going to be referenced a lot soley for its content, im sure that gm figured service departments were better off with the chassis manuals for each line, and then the other manual for every powertrain.
THey must have changed their course by 1990, or the cars did it different, the oldsmobile 88 manual is all one book with both engines data in it

I’m not sure why, but everyone seems to fret dropping the tanks on these trucks, 8 bolts, 1-3 hoses, a few wires.

Siphon/empty the tank is easier of course than trying to do it full.

Never had any issues even being in the rust belt.
the only part i found exceptionally annoying was that since 1) i was much less experienced working on older things/more physical things I was green
2) the ungodly amount of rust my truck has meant that using the impact on the bolts shook and knocked a LOT Of rust onto me
3) i was unsure if i had any wasps living on the truck, but it was parked in the shed for a few weeks to hopefully limit any that may have been(i had drove it in the shop from across the yard, figure that would disrupt any habitation who knows)
4) the straps

The actually removal was fine, I decided to cut an access to the top of the tank from the bedside immediately behind the driver door area because the metal was rusted out anyway, so i just cut iut out , this made the hose hook up easier but i could have done it withouit fine

The bolts were sooo rusty I didnt bother cleaning them to reinstall but i should have.
The straps got replaced, with a new tank after i broke the retainer ring on the tank that the lock ring rotates into

I did find out that I needed to loosen the straps after I had installed because I put them on the tank then tightened not realizing i should have put them on the frame and then put the tank on, or just loosely and then together , then tighten.

Well Here's what I did yesterday to keep my '83 K10 happily working hard.
Who can tell by the picture what this is?
Hint: I got stuck plowing snow thanks to this thing

my issue with locking (manual) was i installed the cover wrong once, and i thought it was locked, but it turned out to be not locked, and then i got stuck because it just spun the shaft on that side lol

Sounds like it would be easier to find someone with a GM tech 2 hand held scanner or a scanner with OBD1 capability
huh?

Also just so you know, the tech 2 with a ALDL (Obd1) plug can only go back to 1991 using the 32mb universal card and 1991 coverage is itself pretty light
The 1992-1995 is fully supported as far as im aware

Hmm, good info.
I'm thinking the front strap bolt may need cut by a 1/2" after I put on the tank. I will NOT be able to get to it once I put it up, and that will help tremendously.
I also caused some of my own problems with the trans jack.
FYI, I got to front strap bolt with long 18mm ratchet wrench, and just used wd40. Little at a time and determination. PB ran outta air, lol.
Passenger side will be different since both are accessible ( God willing ).
Yes, simple inexperience makes for turtle time.

My dad's a magician with a quadrajet, he does it all by ear and feel. We've verified afterward with an AFR on a couple of them and it's dead nuts perfect lol
