I wish someone had found mine before the floor board Rust and the side rot out like they do. I fixed the leak and globbed goop (Bondo...) and whatever I could in the rust holes like those of us who don't weld in patch panels do. It works for what it is. Truck was never meant to be a show truck anyway.

Yeah, it was a ton of work, but better to catch it sooner than too late.

Maybe I didn't heat it enough before welding on it. I have never welded anything like that before.

Yea I have a super cheap HF flux 120v welder. I know it's cheap. It took me a long while to make a quality bead with it but still looks like crap with the splatter. A few guys told me that's just how it is. I just thought it was cause I taught myself to weld by reading , pictures and videos.

Then I was at one of my loggers shops just BS' ing with him. He said here weld this if your gonna stand there. I said ok. Set your welder up for me. He did and I welded up the pins for his landing gear he was making. My welds I thought looked amazing!! I really did realize it is the flux and my cheap welder. He had a snap on mig welder is what I was useing.

Going from AC to DC makes a huge difference even with flux though. I have that same welder you do.

It's unshielded, which is why it's splatters like hell, like arc

I didn't understand the bag on the outside at the beginning? Was that for extra heat?

Just to measure the size so you don't have to do it inside in cramped spaces. We wouldn't have that problem in our trucks. I'm going to douse mine with 409, stick the bag to it and cut around it window with a pair of scissors

Might want to check the flex brake hose to the right rear, they can collapse internally, especially if it's a 30 plus year old part.

Tested it - seems to work !

Decided to install it- 1-1/4 in wrench is hard to swing over the upper hose, but doable.

Trying to get it orientated correctly- then, this happens.

Plus side is no antifreeze came out.
