These guys are NOT direct competitors of ours, so no problem in linking to their thread, and to make sure they get some kudos, This is NastyZ28 forum. I will also add, they have plenty of good Chevrolet engine info on here too.

But, here is a Vortec Head Thread, that has some real good info.

I had screw in studs installed when I had my vortecs machined for springs and it was $580 total. They had to machine down the valve guide boss. If I would have pulled my own studs and disassembled and assembled my heads my self it would have cost about half that. Still not cheep. Love the vortecs though. Lots of low end torque even with a medium sized cam.

can anyone tell me if the gears from the 2000 rear end gears will fit the 10 bolt 8.5 in my 87? just did a little investigating and found out the 87 has a worn out limited slip with 3.08 gears and the 2000 has the g80 with towing package so i assume it must have atleast 3.73 gears in it

A 2000 model 1500 should be 8.6" ring gear. Short answer- no it wont work.

Ok so I have my around 1970s 350 block in engine shop looking to get rebuilt. Has vortec heads and stealth intake at the moment. Wondering what route I should go for more ponies. Not sure the cam in it now but it sounded sweet. Reason in shop lobes rounded on cam. What is the best bang for your buck. It’s going into a 4x4 k10.

Look at compression. If you have the stock dish pistons consider going to flattops. I'm in the process of doing that now. Also you can do beehive valve springs and get a little more valve lift out of Vortec heads.

get a vortec block to rebuild, it will have a roller cam and you wont have to mess with/worry about the lobes going flat again.

My 97 1500 Vortec 350 was a surprisingly fast truck.

Extra medium.

I cracked a pair of those once, replaced em with mild ported 58cc #416s. On this very MSB.
HUGE improvement!
