Transfer case

I have a 1986 K30 with 6.2 diesel and th400 transmission. I believe it has a np208 transfer case but I am wanting to put a np205 in it. Mostly because it’s heavier duty and I would like to twin stick it as well. Are they the same bolt pattern to the transmission? Same spline count? Length? If not what are my options to do to use the np205?

If it is a true K30, it should have the 205 already unless it has been swapped out.

all cucvs are 1984 im pretty sure, unless what that meant is a 1984 square is the basis for all cucvs

strange, someone put a np208 in your cucv unless 1 ton cucvs had them.. which i could of swore they did np205

np208 arent bad but they arent the best either. since its a 1 ton who cares aboutu the weight and quieter aspects of it?


But iti does have a nicer ratio in 4lo

CUCV’s did come with 208’s I believe.

I think the lower 4Low gearing might be why the military used 208’s in the CUCV’s.

Ok so it’s confirmed a 208, I’m pretty sure I’ve heard they all had the 205’s in them as well which is why I was confused it had a 208. But are they interchangeable? I’d like to use a 205 so I can twin stick it but if it’s too big of a pain then I’ll do it later on when I redo it.

to my knowledge you just need a round pattern np205 which .. is probably the hardest part lol. @bucket does this seem right? the th400 and shaft should not be an issue i dont thinkm the adapter I think is the same (well, im not sure if thats an adapter as much as it is a mount )
