Tires/Wheels from newer Suburban to my 88 Suburban

Howdy gents,

I need new tires, and I'd like to replace the fairly discolored/rusty factory steely's on my 88 Suburban 1/2 ton 4x4. 6 on 5.5 as far as I know.

I'm on a tight budget, and so I have had the idea that I'll find donor tires/wheels from something else being parted out by a private party or by an auto wrecker. From what I'm seeing, 265/70R17 was available on Suburbans as a stock option between 2001 and 2014. Would these be a good fit? My understanding is that newer rigs didn't have locking hubs, but rather just have a flange or direct axle drive of some sort. I have that big 3.5" diameter Warn locking hub, and so that's my biggest concern.

I think the biggest concern would be spacing, or offset. I've seen newer model wheels on squarebody trucks and they look kind of tucked in the fender wells.

If i remember correctly the 8 lug wheels from newer rigs (until 2012 or 2014? not sure) fit squarebodies, but 6 lug wheels stopped fitting after the introduction of the GMT400. The hub bore on newer wheels is too small. Offset and backspacing may be an issue as well if you decide to have newer wheels bored out.

I have a set of 04 wheels on my 75 K-20. They are kind of tucked , not any offset. But I had the old 8.75 -16.5 tires on it so this is a real improvement. Still have the original "mud grip" tires that came on my rig in 75, been stored inside and still look good ,but they only go on when the snow is a foot or so deep around here(10-20mphin town) Not to be trusted any where else!!

Thanks guys! I didn't realize offset would be such an issue, but they DO look a lot deeper now that I'm looking closer.

At any rate, it's now moot. I just bought a nice set of 31" mudders from a guy who upgraded to 33's. Got them for a dang good price too!

Might look at something off of a 90's Toyota. My 94 pickup has the same bolt pattern as my dad's 75 K10. May find something newer "fancier" aluminum. I just got a set of 16" aluminums for the tires for 200. They have cosmetic issues themselves but could be cleaned and painted cheap.

I do like the rallys but they never came in 8 lug option and it was cheaper and wiser to swap in a 14bff and front axle than to regear the stock diff when I plan to haul a car, I also have been stripiing the black paint off the H2 wheels.

I do like the rallys but they never came in 8 lug option and it was cheaper and wiser to swap in a 14bff and front axle than to regear the stock diff when I plan to haul a car, I also have been stripiing the black paint off the H2 wheels.

I always wanted a set of truck rallys in a 8 lug, through they would look so good, favorite GM wheel, best looking one ever made in my opinion.
