Pulled the wiring harness off and got the engine on the stand. Power washed the engine and then took the valve covers and intake off. My plan is to put in a cam and springs, maybe hydraulic roller lifters and pushrods too? If I do change lifters and pushrods, what is the formula for the pushrod length? I'm not going to the track at all with this truck (1985 c10 swb 2wd) but I just loooooove burnouts and making people smack their head on the back window. Cam suggestions?

TBH when I picked out this cam it was a bit of a guess. I'm trying to learn how the cam/heads/compression, etc all affect performance on a particular engine. So for the seasoned vets out there, flame away about why this was not a good choice or what would have been a better choice . btw the springs I just got say they handle up to .570 and this cam has a .560 lift. Too close????

No flaming here man just guidance how it’s perceived is on how it’s received. As far as springs all depends on how your going to woop on it could be cutting it close, And spring pressures are also important for any given cam.

Thanks. Since im learning i don't care if someone has an "enthusiastic" opinion, I want to hear all of them. Cam specs and how they affect performance are a little vague right know. Getting there.

An engine is a big air pump and the cam is the brains of the operation.

I think that is a very good cam choice for a daily. I'd take the heads to a shop and have them set them up for that cam, but I don't have the tools or the knowledge to do head work.

And that cam is going to require you to have the computer tuned, so you need to have that done also. Should make for a strong LS though. Gonna be fun in that square! You'll have good burnouts in your future.

Cam is in, I painted the engine and hung the headers on because they look cool. Still have to change out the springs. Friday looks like the day we do surgery on the truck

spending the week in Austin, TX with my grandson back at the swap next weekend. Probably start with getting the fuel system set up. Then I'm going to double check the timing chain gear dots and whether they line up just right. Having a bad feeling that they might not be right. After that, the wiring harness.
