Taking off passenger head about 37 bolts so far

@Hugomartin Hine sight is 20/20 right. I'm not saying this to be a jerk, but if you did not know that the entire intake manifold has to come off before a head is pulled or that, it's really best to do whatever your doing to both heads (even if it's just a gasket), to prevent you from having to do the work a second time, then you'd serve yourself well to research a little better so you know what your getting into ahead of time. The cylinder head shape, and dowels will prevent it from coming off without entirely removing the manifold.

If you haven't drained the coolant, then you probably have a ton of it in the crankcase by now so be sure to change the oil, even if you have drained it still change the oil to be sure. You wouldn't want any debris from the job plugging up the pick up screen, or enough coolant in the crankcase to damage bearings.

pulling the head because of 20 psi or less compression on 4, 6 and 8 cylinders.... Also when it used to run id get oil shooting out of my dipstick while driving upwards of 50mph that could mean maybe a scored piston wall?
You probably have a small hole in one or two pistons.

Ok the head is off now what next to remove the bottom end ? Thanks fellers these are some of the socket sizes used for reference

Do I need to remove anything off the front other than the fan blades . Do I have to remove water pump and power steer pump?

Probably not a bad idea. Just lay power steering pump off to the side when time to pull engine off. Water pump can stay on.
Years ago I remember the ps pump high pressure line nut was an absolute mother effer tightening down with a wrench guess I’ll have to rent a pulley puller . If I get off the ps pump and fan I can lift the engine out? Do I need to remove the hood too?

If pulling the engine Probably have to remove hood. Unless you remove core or clip. I like doing it with at least the core support. I honestly think it's easier and faster to remove the whole clip. Something like 12 bolts?

I'm going to suggest that two books be purchased/ borrowed...a Chiltons/ Haynes guide for the vehicle or similar and a how to rebuild sbc book. That way you can have the books out and available as as you do the work.

Yea, remove the water pump and radiator, don’t want to crash the radiator with the water pump when you remove the engine. Breaking it free of the engine mounts and tranny sometimes is a little unpredictable. You should have labeled those hoses and wires, and taken pics or it’s going to be a trial and error process during reassembly. Depending on your engine lift you could sneak it out without removing the hood. If you’re using a tree limb and come along you will have to remove the hood.

If you don't take out the radiator, you can look forward to buying another one. That is the favorite place for water pumps to stick...AND! If you don't remove the hood you'll likely not be able to get the engine out.

I'm really curious about this low compression on a few cylinders. What was the readings for the good cylinders? Did you pay close attention to the condition of the head gasket on the bad side? Were there distorted areas in the firing rings, where the cylinders are close together? How about some pictures of the cylinder walls, both on the good side and the bad? Have you pulled any lifters to see if any are shot at the base? (Keep track of the location for each lifter, they HAVE to go back in the same location if you plan to use them again)

Basically, it would be nice to know if your engine may be completely shot or possibly repairable (on your own) before going any farther.

I dont have an engine lift ill but i have plenty of treated wood around. Not sure how im gonna do this yet. I thought if i did manage to pull it that the rearest point would be the fly wheel and the trans would still be attached to the truck?
