I agree with @PrairieDrifter looks serviceable.

Now, that isn’t to say that a new harness would be a bad idea or anything like that. But it appears to be mostly intact.

Either way you go, I would make some considerations first, stuff like what radio you might plan on using, gauges, if you are going to keep those aftermarket ones or seek an oe style cluster. That way you can get everything sorted or prepared for what you want and be able to avoid having to redo something later.

Good morning guys. I am hoping to get a little more advice or information from the group. I am installing a cross over steering system on the 79 Burb. In preparation I am working on getting the passenger side Reid Racing knuckle ready for install. I added the spindle studs and lower ball joint with no issue. The upper ball joint has been difficult and I can’t seem to get it seated enough to get the C Clip on it. If you can see in the second picture there appear to be two bumps that are part of the forged knuckle. The C Clip goes on the front part of the ball joint but I can’t get it between those bumps and into the grove on the back side of the joint. I don’t think the joint will seat anymore. Is it absolutely necessary to get the C Clip on the upper ball joint. Thanks for any help/advice you can provide.

Did you do ball joints on the driver side, also? Was there a clip on the upper on that side? I don't think there is a snap ring on the upper ball joint......been awhile

Good morning all,

I'm reaching out to the classic car community for help locating my dad's old 1979 Chevy Suburban. This vehicle holds a lot of sentimental value, as it was a beloved family car that we had many great memories in growing up.

Just go to the DMV and pay a couple of bucks to get the records pulled. They can tell you the name and address of the current owner for a small fee. All you need is the VIN.

Not in a lot of states.

I haven’t done the drivers side yet. I’m still waiting for them to be delivered. I messed up and only ordered one set of Ball joints and spindle studs. They will be here this week. I’ll check when they get here.
You have a ton of work ahead of you. I look forward to seeing the progress.
It has been slow going. I am still trying to figure out what I am going to do about the wiring. I don’t think I have enough knowledge to try to fix the wiring as some of you have recommended so I am thinking it might just be easier to try too install the Painless rewire kit I purchased. Truthfully it seems a bit overwhelming but that is literally what ever YouTube video ays and then they follow up with just break it down into smaller sections and it will start to come together. This truck does not have power windows or door locks so a lot of the wiring is probably not going to get used anyway.

The people here who are knowledgeable are saying to service what you have but some YouTube videos showing you how to install a new painless harness say to buy new. Hmmm
