It has a lot of surface rust, so not entirely rust free, but definitely no rot. I do feel fortunate to live here, even if the politics are unbearable.
Let's see, an hour east... that's Dunlap-ish? Fresno here, I have 74 shorted w/ factory 454, and my son has a 74 elco, so I'm not the one to judge if anything is "better for smog purposes" but reach out if you need anything..

edit: oh and I read about the tools you 3d printed and forgot to mention, my son works at a transmission shop here in town, if you ever need any help in that area, or even discounted parts(they have accounts with decent pricing at all the normal places) I'm pretty sure it'd be worth the drive.
You got it. I'm in Squaw Valley. I come into Fresno twice a month for supplies. We should have a meet-up. My trans is holding up well, but it's super old. With the wheeling my nephew likes to do, I might take you up on your offer before I plan to LOL.

Hi everyone. Here is my beater Suburban running wild and free in the hills of Central California.

I've been doing a rolling restoration for the last few years. Often, it ends up being more restoration than I planned. I tried to replace a leaking pinion seal without reading the instructions, which turned into a total axle build. Doh.

I took the opportunity to get an LSD and do a rear disc swap at the same time.

Then I was doing a front brake service and bearing repack, but kept finding worn out parts. I kept removing them until I was inside the diff, and still finding them. So, another axle build, and another LSD. And hey, since I'm in there, why not do a total front end refresh?

This last summer was way too hot, so I did a Sanden conversion after getting one trash compressor after another from the parts store.

And I painted the air cleaner. Because why not?

Then the gas tank sprang a leak and failed smog. So that got replaced.

Since I was in there, I did some undercoating.

I'm working on a cooling system refresh right now.

It's taking way too long. Probably because I pulled the core support out to paint it too.

And refurbish the heater box.

And a bunch of other stuff I can't remember now.

Anyway, thanks everyone.
WOW looks great. I bought a 79 Burb a few months back and have begun to try to “restore” it with the very little knowledge I have. Rebuilding a dif is something I am not sure I will ever be brave enough to tackle. In the middle of adding a cross over steering system and that has proven to be a big enough challenge. Good luck it looks great.
