Poll -Would doing a LS swap in a CLEAN 1987 V10 INCREASE to DECREASE VALUE?

If the truck is absolutely perfect and NEVER been modified....stick with stock. When I say never modified, I mean as far down as cutting the dash for a newer radio or something of that nature. Once a decision like that has been made, it's no longer stock......do what ever you want cuz it's not worth the effort to go back unless your going to sell it for high dollar.

As long as you don’t completely hack something and if you are a good enough welder, everything is reversible and no one has to know it’s been modified then returned to stock. Taking this into consideration—I’d not worry about value, but what you want.

If the drivetrain is original to the truck, keep it wrapped up somewhere. The answer to the question depends on the intended use, level of mods and budget. An LS has a lot of potential. Stock for stock, a basically modified 350 will have more torque down low than a stock 5.3.

IMO, stock is nice for occasional tootling about in an old vehicle. If I’m daily driving something, I like power. It takes a bit of work to make decent hp/tq from a gen 1 sbc. 400hp is pretty basic these days.

How about leaving it alone and stock? just daily drive it. Then "pickup" an LS truck, spend all you want, enjoy both for about the same cash, so many choices.

If it's all matching numbers, I'll say increase but only if you keep the old engine/hardware to go back. Also not modifying any original hardware is a plus. Win/Win if you can do that.

If you are looking to sell your truck, keep it stock - let whoever buys it change it to what they want.
I have little regard for the value of anything if there is no intent to sell it. To claim it is worth this or that means nothing if somebody offers you a number and you pass it up. The only reason one would be concerned about the value would be for replacement costs, and for that you need to retain all receipts and have a proper appraisal completed.

The rest of the vehicle is still attached to the L86, so just another family truckster. I just had no idea how they screamed!

My opinion, I'd gladly pay more for a properly done LS swapped truck. Period. But that's only if it's done to the same level as the rest of the truck with a nice harness/all nice, new parts and a good combo that works together (i.e. a cam too big for the converter and a 2.73 gear lol)
