That yellow wire needs to go to a constant 12V like the interior lighting. From the picture and what you describe it looks like they got the constant and the switched hooked up to a switch 12v.

Remove the yellow wire and find a constant 12 volt source like the wire that feeds your interior lights or cig lighter wire and splice in the yellow wire. Leave the two red wires in the picture connected together.

Most of the time there is an orange wire that plugs into the fuse box that feeds a constant 12v to your dome and under dash interior lights or you can use the big red wire that feeds the headlight switch. If you use the headlight switch I suggest that you place an inline fuse between the headlight wire and the radio.

That should fix your problem of loosing all the radio preset stations, clock etc.

Is the original factory radio harness there? Are the plugs still there or they cut off?

If I remember correctly the factory radio did not need a constant 12v source.

That is what I am showing on the diagram so he needs to run a bat feed from the top left of the fuse panel. :)

Cool they used an adapter instead of hacking the harness. You will need to run a hot feed wire from a batt terminal on the fuse panel. I also suggest adding an inline fuse in said wire.

Use one of these terminals with a male spade connector:

I blew a fuse a little bit ago trying to hook up a new cig lighter. Guess it wasn't grounded correctly. So is there and easier way to do this? What is the orange wire I have not connected to anything

Is this a separate conversation from hooking up the radio?

The orange wire going to the cigarette lighter is a constant hot. Are you replacing the factory lighter socket in the ash tray or mounting an aftermarket one under the lip of the dash?
