Look into Bluetooth amplifiers where you leave the original radio in the dash but connect the amplifier to your speakers and control it from your phone.
There is a a few examples on line of these installations. One guy removed the guts of his OEM radio and adapted the volume control to an amplifier like this one which was clever. Just have to be careful and read deep as some mention base is not crisp over Bluetooth but others are quite pleased.

If you decide to set the original radio aside, you can get a more modern type head unit from Retro Manufacturing. The truck I bought actually had one (poorly) installed when I got it. Now its wired correctly its not bad. Also has bluetooth/aux cord connection capabilities.
This pic is real similar to what I have and would be super simple to get all the extra speakers you want, even a subwoofer if you're into that sorta thing
Yeah I’ve been thinking of going that route. Not sure at this point what I’ll do. I drive the truck infrequently so not sure it pays for me to upgrade the radio itself.

Oh wow. I didn’t know these things existed. Definitely an option.

Are you steadfast in keeping your original dash bezel as-is?
One can always buy a used bezel, trim for single din head unit, make it cosmetically appealing and go radio / speaker shopping!

I want to keep the truck as stock as possible so I was trying to keep the radio and just add some rear speakers to it. Unfortunately I can’t find a harness for the rear speakers to connect to the radio.

Go with the retro style Am/fm stereo, I put one in my 75 C10 and it sounds great, I put the stereo speaker in center of the dash and behind the seat corners with the 6 1/2 speakers, couldn’t be happier

Are there different manufacturers of the retro radios or pretty much one manufacturer? I think I’ve seen Laguna and retro radio?

Retro manufacturing, classic car stereos and a few others I really don’t remember who I got mine from, I googled retro style stereos for 73-87 Chevy trucks, good luck on your search
