That would be badass if you can do it. You're in Cali too aren't you? Where at? I might be able to find out if Cal-Tex has a location near you for parts. I used to buy all my trans kits from Cal-Tex when I lived in So Cal. You might also have a TransStar local to you. Higher prices but you might be able to be a Will Call customer and get jobber cost on your kit to help with the prices. If you have a TransStar locally, be sure to get one of their converters. ReCon is the name of their converter division and they do great work on converters. Next inline, I'd suggest a DACCO conveter. I doubt you need high performance converter, but there's noone better than Edge Converters for High Performance and he's in Northern Cali. Seems all the good trans guys are in Cali. Except transpartsusa is in Florida and they give everyone good prices that I don't think can be beat.

hahaha, so you know where Madera is. I'll never forget the place. Had a little mishap in I5 northbound when moving from LA to Olivehurst/Marysville/Yuba City area.

At the time, my 62 Chev wasn't running. Something minor, but didn't have time to fix it. The plan was to tow the Duster. Instead, used the Duster and towed the 62 with a towbar rented from U Haul and the truck was loaded. Looking back now I know how stupid that was, but at the time, I think I was 19. The 62 had a front blow out at 60 mph when I was on a bit of down slope trying to gain some speed. Truck much heavier than the car, did a jackknife and then 2 360's and landed blocking the 2 fast lanes, and IIRC, bach then it was only 2 lanes. The truck went over the bar on one side, the towbar went under the car on the other side, and buried the nose of the truck in the quarter panel of the car. Car totalled. Luckily I had a jack to get them separated, but then got them to the side of the road and had to fix the truck and then drive both vehicles. Towbar was trashed. It was quite an ordeal. CHP and the whole 9 yards. Telling me I had 10 minutes to get them apart or he's calling a wrecker. I had no cash for a wrecker bill. It sucked bad.

Then it must have been the Hwy 99 turn off toward Madera. I know it was I-5. I'd have not reason to get off I-5 going from LA to Sac.

Make sure you find a good book to follow along with, and yes, take lots of pics as you're tearing it down too. That may be of great help going back together in case you forget how something came apart.

I know the books I`ve followed in trans rebuilding calls for disasembling/rebuilding the clutch packs as they are removed from the case,do`nt do as I did on My first rebuild and completely disasemble the trans then rebuild them clutch packs,it got confusing,to say the least.
Follow that book to a T.
Here is a pic.of a simple puller I made for removing the retainer from the clutch pack in the bottom of the transmission.A couple pf pieces of scrap and a length of all thread.Legs can be bent to fit most transmissions.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh, hmmmmm. If that will get you out of a pinch, go for it. Those transmissions like that are for one thing. To sell a vehicle and dump it. All they do is tear into it, and fix ONLY what's wrong and put it back together. IF you're lucky they might replace all the seals. You get what you pay for.

Usually those are an advertising leader to make the phone ring. But, you might just get lucky and get a good that just honestly needed a band in it and still be in great shape. If funds are tight, go for it. Just saying, I woudln't have high expectations and if you got 6 months out of it, I'd say you did good and anything after that is FREE Trans life. I have a feeling that is no converter either.

To further add, even if its an ole' boy that does them in his garage, it can't be all that good. I will NOT do one for $390, simply cuz I put more than $390 worth of parts in it.

Reason for my 2nd response, if you want to do that deal, ask then how long it would take to build yours and will do the $390 on yours. This way you know you're getting the right one with the right wiring etc. And yours being a 92 model, will be one of the better units with all the latest updates.
