Find out what kind of band they're putting in too. Don't let them talk you into a Kevlar lined band. EVeryone wants to go Kevlar because they associate it with high performance and racing. True That, it is good for racing cuz it holds better, BUT, Kevlar also wears out quicker. For racing you don't care since you freshen up the trans anyway after so many passes or races, but for a daily driver, you want something that will last. Just go with the stanard band, Red Alto band, or Carbon band. Just tell them NO Kevlar and something that will last long as possible.

Not really all that hard. Only special tool you MIGHT need is the sealing ring resizer on the pump rings, but I've been known to use hose clamps to do that, and those being used and already fitting, shouldn't need the resizer unless you reaplace the pump rings which unless they're broken during taking apart, which is rare, they should be fine. IIRC, the 2-4 band is directly behind the pump and wraps around the input drum. You'll have to pull the Servo out of the side of the case too to relieve the servo pin from pushing on the band to allow it to come out.

700r4 is not one I've done a build thread on. I intend to do one someday though. Shoulda been done by now. That and the Manual Trans A833 build will be coming someday. All I have up is Th350 and Th400. They are very similar but a little different being the 700r4 uses an aluminum Vane type pump instead of a cast iron cresent moon gear pump, the good kind, like 4L80-E has too.

But let me see what I can find in my Bookmark Links. I may have a how to for it. Pops posted one for 700r4, and it had copyrights to it, and it had to come down via the request of the video owner or be sued.

Here is a video that will help, but this is a 4L60-E, not a 700r4. Very similar but not exact. For example, you will not have to remove a shift solenoid to get the TCC solenoid out. This calls that washer, a plastic gasket, Deeta Dee, it's a Thrust Washer. Forgive him for that. Only 3 seals you should need. The Pump O ring he speaks of, the pump gasket he speaks of, and I'd replace the front pump seal just cuz, and just cuz you are there and can do it easily. They do tend to harden, then will start cutting grooves in your Torque Converter then you have a leak that can't be fixed without and new TC or an oversize bushing, so even if it's not leaking now, the seal could be working on getting hard depending on age, and I'd just replace it with new while there since they are about $4-$5. I'd also get Servo Seals for the Servo on the side of the case.

You said this has been rebuilt before? If so, and a good shop did it, it should have a Vette Servo in it already, if not, I'd put a Vette Servo in it too. That will help with a crisp 2nd gear shift. Less slipping the band at gear change time. Less slip, means less heat, less friction, and band lasts longer, not to mention, will feel like a better more positive shift. So if it doesn't have the Vette Servo, be sure to put it in.

This is even better help, but also is a 4L60-E and he skips some steps.. Also, he pulls the drums out of the case. I think you can get the band out WITHOUT pulling the drums out. If not, just lift them out, like he does, and then you see the band. Put the new band in and reseat those drums. Hopefully you won't have to pull the drums. They can be a bitch to get lined up and KNOW that you have all the clutches engaged where they go.

How soon do you want to do all this? If you ordered the parts from www.transmissionpartsusa.com, it would take about a week to get the parts, but you'd get good quality stuff and cheap. I don't know where you'd get this stuff locally.

High Energy Band $13.29
http://www.transmissionpartsusa.com/700R4_4L60E_4L65E_Transmission_2_4_band_p/350-00035995b.htm

New Filter $5.37
http://www.transmissionpartsusa.com/700R4_Transmission_filter_p/350-000035920.htm

Vette Servo $11.37
http://www.transmissionpartsusa.com/700R4_4L60E_Corvette_servo_piston_p/350-000035952.htm

I don't see where they have the gaskets seperate. Usually they do. Maybe not listed on the page. But with a complete kits, you'd get the front and rear seals, may as well do the rear seal too since it's out. It also gets hard and will cut your driveshaft yoke. Then you'll need the pump O ring and gasket and pan gasket. The rest you'd have left over. But you could also do all the external seals, like dipstick seal, TV cable seal, speedo sender seal etc, The whole gasket kit is $23.

700r4 Gasket Kit $22.45
http://www.transmissionpartsusa.com/700R4_transmission_gasket_kit_p/350-000035037.htm

Prolly looking at $75 total with shipping for new band, Vette Servo, Filter and all new external seals and gaskets. All those guys would get you is the band and MAYBE replace the gaskets. For the $12, I'd just get the Vette Servo and KNOW you have the Vette Servo. If it looks the same as yours, then put it on EBay and sell it for $15 or so.
