Welp, put about 150 miles on her over the weekend and I think that all the repairs I’ve done so far are good to go so time to move on to the next round. I think the next steps are steering and brakes that I’m going to hit. Floors/front body mounts and door hinge pins will be done within the next week or two then it’ll be steering and brakes.

There seems to be excess play in the steering. I know for sure that the tie rods need done so I’ll probably do idler arm while I’m there. Contemplating steering box and pitman, too, as I’m betting they’re original. Steering boxes tend to be a pain in the butt, tho, so I’m not all that eager to do that one lol

I’m also tossing around doing ball joints at the same time I do brakes and will probably just do upper and lower arms with the ball joints already in them. Again because what’s there seems to be original from 89.

I’ll be looking on belltech’s site tonight to see what they have that might make sense with this phase and also doing a mild drop at the same time.

Next up is new head unit and dash speakers (not important) and the important stuff like tie rods, ball joints and going through the brakes. Once that’s all complete I’ll put carpet in

Snowed pretty good this weekend (probably 4-6”). I was pleasantly surprised at how well she handled the snow

Here’s a pic of my setup for adding weight to the rear. This was Saturday before we started getting snow

Let me tell you from experience if you hit a tree head on that tire and concrete blocks are coming through the front of the bed, back of the cab and pushing you into wheel/windshield! I made that mistake with my first s10. I wish i could show you the pics.

Yea that was a result of "young" me drivin 2wd in snow and not being able to recover a rear slide. But if that ONE tree didnt stop me i woulda went into a pole barn full of school buses so....i consider myself lucky especially since i only had 1 little piece of glass in my head.

That is way better than what my brother in law did when he first got the S10 that I ended up with. He had a buddy put a big chunk of concrete in the bed. As soon as he let out the clutch, it went sliding back and bent the tailgate. And of course that startled him and he hit the brakes.... and the concrete slid forward and bent the front bed wall. What a goober, lol.

When I drove it in the winter, I had a junk Quad 4 that I put in the bed and strapped down. Very low tech, but it worked.

sand bags work reasonably well or pieces of green firewood preferably green red oak because that crap is heavy.
