But, they would be a period-correct modification though.
Yep but in post 21 he specifically said he didn't want heads that had specific give away markings like double humps. The way 21 is worded seems to me like he doesn't know the markings by number. So making sure he knew. I've got some 186s,they are my choice of heads for old school castings in certain situations. They just don't meet his demands. I'm thinking 882s or 993s are his best bet for best of the worst.. P.S. the ex. even though she was a motor head, asked me if my 186s had to live in the entry hall. I moved them, she's now gone, for different reasons, but I still have the 186s. So it seems moving them was just a waste of my time. LOL!!!

Yes, you are 100% correct. I only made that statement in case OP would be fine with a period correct, hot rod head. Because you know, popping the hood and showing off those double humps used to be a proud moment for many.

Yep, you are 100 percent right. And when I'd ask them which double humps? They'd look at me and say double humps and I say which double humps? You know, thinking about it,601s would probably be my choice on his build, small chambers, decent shaped chambers, room for porting, decent flow for a factory head and markings 99 percent of people would never notice.

Where are you located? I have a really nice set of 186 double hump GM heads I think would be exactly what you want. They already have the hardened valve seats installed
North GA, but not interested in double humps. If I end up changing from what was stock it will be to Vortecs or Dart/Brodix heads down the road. 186s won't be hard to get rid of, though

Do some investigating on 601s I think they may be what you are looking for.

You are correct in that I am not familiarized with all of the different markings and their associated castings. I am with double humps, the single, Vortecs, etc... the desirable heads. I started with the 5.0 efi Ford cars and went to LS1s. Could tell you anything you wanted to know about those. Small Block Chevrolets, at least with OEM old school pieces are relatively new to me. I've messed with a few the last few years that were modded, 350-450hp style builds, but they weren't stock anything outside of blocks. The only stock headed ones I've messed with are 80s engines.

If anyone is wondering, I've came from a street racing and class-racing with rulebooks background. My mentality on modifications is not average. I don't have an issue with knowing what works best or how to make power. I was raised on "sleepers".

I would rather people see a Quadrajet, iron intake, OEM air box, and say WTF!!??

Im well aware of the limitations and eventually I'll move forward unless it's sell time. This is just fun. I've done something similar with everything I've owned for close to 20 years. Eventually they move past the stock look.

Wasn't bagging on you,was just thinking you didn't know the markings by number and knew you didn't want double humps which 186s are. Take at look some 601s,not period correct but a good substitute for a double humps without having a well known marking.
