Mounting a heavy belt-driven air compressor

I've got an old Bendix TU-FLO 400 sitting in my garage that I'm looking at using for on board air. They used to be used for air brakes and such on big trucks so I know it'll work fine, but the issue is it's like 35 lbs. Anybody come up with any mounting options for such a thing? A york would be nice, but this is free.

I would imagine you would need to mount it somwhere above the engine.. which makes this harder. you almost need a bushing mount on the frame(to allow movement of the motor) to give you support. Id hate to crane brackets over from bolts on the motor... that i feel would be a lot unless you could find a spot where you could use multiple fasteners. Perhaps fabricate brackets from manifold bolts, multiple ones, that all meet on the compressor so you can distribute that force and make it sturdy.

Do you have a pic? In a perfect world, utilize the AIR pump area. Just affix it to the frame with the pulley in line with the smog pump groove on the water pump pulley and use a longer v-belt, like the PS pump uses. That’s the only way I see it sitting upright, as well. If you somehow mounted that heavy SOB to the motor, either the smog pump quadrant or the brake booster quadrant, it would have to be clocked. At least what I’m picturing would be.

The one I have came off of a standalone air compressor so it is internally oiled.

Find a set of compressor mounts from a truck that run the same engine as what You have.

I know it was free, but a York might be more compact and reader to mount. I have mine on the driver side of the engine with a bracket I made, running off the power steering pump (3 groove pulley). The York also has a clutch and can be turned off.

How tall is the bendix compressor from mounting base to top of head?

I don't have it handy, but I'd guess 10 or 12 inches.
