I am debating on swapping modern seats into my square but I have heard people say that the old seats provided some additional suspension creating a smoother ride? For those of you that have done modern swaps do you find this to be true? Did the old bucket seats have additional springs in them to smooth the ride?

It all depends on ones personal preference and what their butt says. I have 00-06 silverado seats in my 77 and love them. Are they better than stock?

My ride is rough and I can tell by the bounce and the wheel. That's why I haven't put in the cadillac seats I bought for it....just got a bad feeling it would be a back cracker after that.

In the 70's regarding dirt bikes... seat foam was considered part of the suspension package.
Let's leave soft seats mellowing hard suspension back in the 70s where it all belongs.

In the "old days" the goal for many car/truck seats was to make them as comfortable as your couch at home. That meant there were very short bolsters on the side (easy to slide in), and flat, soft cushions that let you sink into the seat once you were in place. If you needed support over bumps you just hung on to the steering wheel, and let passengers fend for themselves.

Modern seats have more support, but you have to get used to the feel. If you install some form of sport seats they will probably be more like "bucket" seats, where there are firm bolsters on each side to hold you in place. This works fine if your butt fits the seat, but might not be the best choice for everyone.

Here's what I did. I was very happy with it, and so was my passenger. She dislike sliding around on the bench seat in the corners. Very comfortable, despite modest +2/+3 lift and All-Terrain TAs on a short-box.
What should my new seat be????

I swapped my stock bench seat for 81 - 91 Suburban buckets, the type in the photo below (not my truck). They are very comfortable, and IMHO look right in the truck vs. a more modern seat. Lots of people have documented this swap, but I did some additional modifications to the seat rails to move the buckets back 3" - 4" for additional leg room and steering wheel clearance.

That was going to be my suggestion, suburban or blazer bucket seats.

That's the 'horse-collar' seats in a Camaro RS isn't it?

@TheFishBox I see you are in Oregon.
I have a set just like this out of a Suburban that I would happily sell.
It is both seats and the center console.
Just a thought as I need to keep the bench for the use of the 3 seat belts.

@TheFishBox here are the photos I have on hand.

I can have my son take some better detailed ones in a little while when he is available.
Plus he can remove the worn seat covers to show how they look underneath...
