OK I replaced the engine in the truck. I was planning on selling the core to help pay for more square body stuff :Big Laugh:. I had it listed for a while got fed up with the 100 questions and no follow through. So the other day I had my grandson help pull a head and rod cap to teach him a little about engines , turns out it is a standard bore standard crank perfect for a rebuild. I just happened to look at the numbers on the front pad of the block and realized it matches the vin. So I know matching numbers vetts and such are a big deal on a square body would anyone care? should i save it or sell it????

People probably don't care. But that could maybe change some day, if you even decide to sell the truck at some point.

Save at least the block, preferrably the long block and intake. If you rebuild it, make sure your machinist knows how to deck a block and leave the VIN stamp.
Probably isn't worth much today, but someday it could be worth a lot if you take really good care of your truck.

I'd say it matters.

I think its worth keeping for the learning experience with your grandson. Its an added bonus if you ever go to sell it and can offer the original block. Its worth something more to the right buyer.

As much as i hate to waste the space in the garage and would like the money i think i will keep it. I know if I off it now I will regret it later.

I look at it this way. 10-15 years ago you couldn't really give away a square body truck here, but now they are becoming a big deal again. Maybe one day having a numbers matching block will have a serious effect on the resale value even if right now I can't think of anyone who would care. Besides engines don't take up that much room when they aren't on a stand...
